Job Description | The inaugural Executive Director of Lifelong Learning at Sarah Lawrence College will steward the expansion of innovative non-degree programs designed to serve the needs of learners at all levels. From its founding in 1926, the College’s mission has focused learning across the lifespan, from the littlest learners in the Early Childhood Center through professional degrees and continuing education. The Executive Director will continue this tradition by overseeing existing programs and bringing new audiences to the College through newly designed educational offerings addressing the needs of a changing workforce and serving learners at all levels.
Essential Duties Summary | Reporting directly to the Provost, the person in this inaugural position will envision and lead the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of non-degree education across the College. The Executive Director will supervise several long-standing programs, including the Center for the Urban River, Child Development Institute, Early Childhood Center, and Writing Institute, while developing new initiatives in alignment with Sarah Lawrence’s strategic goals and priorities. We seek candidates with strategic, entrepreneurial orientation; an educational approach that embraces students of all backgrounds; a thorough understanding of innovative and effective practices; and related experience in innovative educational delivery. The ideal candidate will have both educational expertise and business acumen to boost support to existing programs and to help launch new, effective programs.Working closely with the Provost, as well as with a number of offices across campus, the Director of Lifelong Learning will develop and expand online and in-person non-degree programming to serve learners at all levels across the lifespan.
Primary responsibilities: Design, continue to develop, and launch innovative educational programs for diverse audiences, including K-12 and professional development sectors. Align educational offerings with the College’s mission and standards, while ensuring profitability and scalability. Provide primary oversight of all SLC non-degree/non-credit educational programs and their directors. Monitor the success of programs using quantitative and qualitative metrics, and continuously improve offerings based on data-driven insights. Engage with external partners, industry experts, and educators to ensure programs are relevant, innovative, and competitive. Collaborate with a number of offices across campus, including finance, operations, and marketing, to ensure the educational programs are effectively positioned and delivered.
Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Master’s Degree, preferred) 5+ years of experience in educational program leadership/development Demonstrated ability to lead/design programs that respond to market considerations and achieve learning outcomes, coupled with financial stability and program growth Comfort with presenting information in a variety of settings, including with governmental/industry partners Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills Entrepreneurial orientation and demonstration of data-driven decision-making
