Advertising/Posting Title | Ext Communications Manager
Posting Summary | As part of the university’s Division of Strategic Communications (Strat Comm) and embedded within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), as a communicator, assist all units in CALS including UVM Extension (EXT) to create, update, and maintain communications and marketing campaigns that raise awareness and help strengthen the brand of UVM, CALS, and UVM EXT. Work closely with the CALS Director of Strategic Communications and the UVM Strategic Communications team to support external and internal communications goals through all channels.Work with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders within CALS/EXT to create, edit, and publish content for external and internal audiences. Work independently and on collaborative activities. Use judgment in prioritizing work and applying communications best-practices.Support maintenance and improvement needs of the CALS/EXT media channels, newsfeeds, and newsletters and website. Support other marketing and communications activities as needed.Utilize media tools, techniques, and methods consistent with university guidelines.
Work in collaboration with Strat Comm and CALS/EXT leadership to develop high-quality storytelling content that advances CALS/EXT highest priorities (mission, vision, and goals) through digital filmmaking, written storytelling, website content management, digital platforms, and engaging marketing. The work should meet the needs of groups of UVM stakeholders including our community of learners, alumni, faculty, staff, families, donors, farmers, business owners, policy-makers, researchers, and other local, regional and national communities UVM and UVM Extension serves.
Demonstrate a capacity for learning new platforms and systems. Provide recommendations, instruction, and guidance to promote optimum use of services and/or creative outlets consistent with university guidelines. Understand and apply university, college and Extension policies and procedures including (but not limited to) Creative Style Guide, Licensing, ADA/Accessibility, Technology Review, Copyright, and Intellectual Property.Practice exceptional design and visual communication skills, employ excellent written and verbal communications skills, display a high attention to detail, and provide responsive internal and external customer service. Develop relationships within CALS, Extension, and key institutional partners (Strategic Communications, Enterprise Technology Services, or other campus offices as needed).
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) | Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or relevant liberal arts field. Four to six years related experience in digital communications roles and/or a portfolio of applicable work in the field.
Experience with digital content creation, writing, and editing.
Strong written communications skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Must be able to work independently and as a team member with a diverse group of constituents, including academic and administrative leadership.
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, and manage deadlines independently.
Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere.
Experience with social media tools and techniques.
Understanding of visual design principles for social media
Desirable Qualifications
Master’s degree in design, journalism, film, writing, communications, or marketing.
Experience with Crisis Communications
Previous communications work in higher education, corporate communications, at a creative agency, non-profit, or other decentralized organization.
Experience with Google Analytics or other SEO tools.
Anticipated Pay Range | $75,000 to $83,000
