Faculty Developer, Office of Teaching and Learning Full Description

Located within the Vice Provost of Faculty Success within the Office of the Provost, the current mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to support faculty in the advancement of transformative, inclusive, and impactful teaching and learning across all disciplines and modalities to actualize DU’s educational promise to all students. The OTL staff supports faculty by advancing skills in course design, pedagogy, inclusive teaching, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and academic assessment. We seek a highly organized, self-motivated, tech-savvy, solution-oriented, and customer-focused individual to serve as Faculty Developer.

Position Summary
The Faculty Developer reports to the Assistant Vice Provost/Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL) and works collaboratively with OTL staff members and university faculty. The primary function of the Faculty Developer is to support the adoption and effective use of educational technology through faculty development offerings and consultations. Additionally, the Faculty Developer provides the first level of support for troubleshooting educational technology issues with faculty and staff. This is a full-time staff position.

Essential Functions
Faculty Development Programs and Initiatives
  • Design, develop, implement, and assess research-informed faculty development programs, surrounding online learning pedagogy, educational technology, and emerging technologies.
  • Support faculty and staff in the adoption and use of learning technologies in pedagogically effective ways. This includes but is not limited to faculty development courses, webinars, faculty learning communities, self-paced workshops, and other specialized offerings as needs arise.
  • Work in collaboration with IT to support the administration of the Learning Management System (Canvas), including changes with the LMS, integrations, policies and guidelines, technical challenges, developing and delivering training, and best practices.
Consultations
  • Conduct confidential and problem-solving consultations with faculty members and academic departments about teaching and learning issues, particularly as it pertains to online learning, educational technology, and emergent teaching trends.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for the learning management system and other instructional technologies supported by the university.
  • Provide support for individuals and departments as they explore solutions for evolving teaching needs through the adoption of new educational technologies.
  • Conduct confidential and problem-solving consultations with faculty members and academic departments about teaching and learning issues, particularly as it pertains to online learning and the LMS.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for the learning management system and other instructional technologies supported by the university.
Collaboration within and beyond the OTL
  • Participate as a collaborative team member and provide thought leadership in areas of expertise through support and implementation of OTL activities and programs
  • Collaborate with OTL staff to support initiatives related to new faculty onboarding, ongoing academic year programming, and others as needed.
  • Represent the OTL and provide expertise to campus-wide initiatives and participate in campus-wide committees that intersect with the role.
  • Provides backup technical support to OTL-supported educational technology systems as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
National Trends and Practice
  • Maintain currency in the field of faculty development, educational and emergent technology, and online education
  • Contribute to national dialogue and scholarship by participating in national and/or local conferences and engaging in research necessary to share DU’s achievements with the broader scholarly community.
  • Seek out professional development, and actively participate in relevant professional organizations (as funding allows).

Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the administration of an academic LMS platform
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Expertise in instructional design.

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.
Salary
The salary grade for the position is 10. The salary range for this position is $66,000 - $72,000. The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
