Finance Recruiting Coach Full Description

Position Summary: | The Finance Recruiting Coach plays a critical role in preparing undergraduate students for successful careers in finance by delivering personalized coaching, career development, and mentoring programming, and targeted employer engagement with both alumni professionals and non-alumni recruiters within financial institutions. This role supports students through all phases of the finance recruiting process—from initial career exploration to interview preparation and job offer negotiation—ensuring alignment with industry standards and expectations. This is a two-year grant-funded role.

Position Responsibilities:  | Conduct one-on-one advising sessions to help students explore career paths in finance, understand industry trends, and set personalized career goalsGuide students in identifying their interests, strengths, and values to match them with suitable finance rolesProvide access to curated finance job search resources, including alumni, industry-specific job boards, databases, and recruiting platformsEducate students on a wide range of finance-related employers, including commercial and investment banks, asset and wealth management firms, hedge funds, private equity firms, real estate investment firms, insurance companies, consulting firms, government agencies, nonprofits, and fintech companies – this is not a role focused solely on jobs in investment bankingOffer individualized feedback on resumes and cover letters tailored to finance rolesEnsure documents reflect relevant competencies, quantifiable achievements, and alignment with industry expectationsDesign and lead workshops and mock interviews that include both behavioral and technical componentsTrain students in effective interview techniques (e.g., STAR method) and the ability to discuss market trends, financial modeling, and economic developmentsOrganize in-person mock interview days featuring finance professionals and recruiters to provide students with realistic interview practice and direct feedbackFacilitate connections between students and finance professionals, including alumni, through events, mentorship programs, and informational interviewsDevelop and oversee a formal finance mentoring program that pairs students with alumni or industry mentorsPlan and execute key events such as keynote speaker panels, "lunch and learn" sessions at financial firms, and on-campus or virtual employer info sessionsGuide students in building a professional presence on platforms such as LinkedIn and leveraging professional associationsAssist students within The Finance Accelerator in identifying and securing competitive internshipsTrack student outcomes and ensure alignment with employer recruiting timelines and hiring needsDevelop and deliver workshops on key finance competencies, including financial modeling, data analysis, Excel, presentation delivery, and business communicationIncorporate external learning opportunities (e.g., Wall Street Prep and Eudemonics Lab workshops) into programming for students pursuing financial policy or public finance roles

Experience & Education Background: | Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, M.Ed., or related field) preferredPrior experience in finance, career services, coaching, recruiting, or higher educationExperience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion

Skills & Competencies: | Understanding of finance career paths (IB, PE, VC, corporate finance, asset management, etc.)Familiarity with recruiting timelines and differences across firms (e.g., accelerated IB recruiting vs. rolling deadlines)Knowledge of core finance concepts (valuation, financial modeling, accounting, etc.) to help with technical interview prepUp-to-date with market trends in finance hiring, compensation, and industry shiftsStrong interpersonal skills: Able to build rapport quickly with students or professionalsEmpathy and encouragement: Particularly important during high-stress recruiting seasonsClear written and verbal communication: For explaining complex finance topics or correcting poor messagingCultural fluency: Understanding how to tailor guidance to international students, first-gen students, or those from non-target schoolsWorkshop development: Creating content on recruiting timelines, networking strategy, resume reviews, etc.Event planning & employer outreach: Organizing alumni panels, employer info sessions, etc.Data tracking: Monitoring student outcomes and placement stats for reporting or continuous improvementTech fluency: Familiarity with tools like Handshake, CRM systems, and Excel Sheets for tracking and advising
