Job Summary  | The Utah Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is hiring a Financial Analyst. The Financial Analyst will be an integral team member in the CTSI’s Administrative Core, which provides central operational support to the CTSI’s many cores, services, teams, and training programs.

Under minimal supervision, the Financial Analyst will support the day-to-day financial operations and compliance for the CTSI, particularly in travel, purchasing cards, asset management, and financial transactions. The Financial Analyst will prepare financial reports, conduct special projects, and provide financial analyses for all levels of management. We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, collaborates well in a group, and is able to work on and complete tasks independently.

Responsibilities  | Primary responsibilities include:

Provides travel support and processes travel reimbursements through the Concur System. Maintains space, property, asset database, and inventory. Oversees departmental purchasing card compliance and monthly cost reallocation. Provides training and guidance to other staff on financial issues, purchasing card compliance, travel, and other procedures to other staff. Monitors and facilitates financial transactions for educational and research programs in alignment with the budget.
 General functions include:

 Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and departmental operations. Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports. Analyzes financial data and interprets for management. Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems. Audits accounting systems, reconciles data, and resolves technical problems or recommends solutions when appropriate. Analyzes trends and possible consequences. May prepare and monitor subunit budgets. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required.

An advanced degree, such as a Master’s of Business Administration, is preferred. Certain positions may require familiarity with hospital billing systems, Medicare and insurance reimbursement regulations, etc.

Preferences  | Prior experience in accounting and/or financial tracking strongly preferred. Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel, strongly preferred. Familiarity with university systems, including Concur, Management Reports,and  Procurement, is helpful.
