Role Summary
The Financial Controller plays a key operational role on our finance team, taking hands-on ownership of day-to-day accounting across our operating entities. Reporting to finance and operations leadership, this position manages full-cycle accounts payable, payroll operations, and tax compliance while supporting the month-end close. We are looking for a resourceful, proactive doer—someone who takes pride in the quality of their work, takes initiative to resolve daily operational items efficiently, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Payable & Vendor Operations
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor onboarding, W-9 collection, GL coding, and vendor master record maintenance.
- Prepare weekly bill runs for approval, ensuring complete supporting documentation, proper coding, and timely payments.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor inquiries, actively resolving invoice discrepancies and payment questions.
- Process employee expense reports and corporate card reconciliations in accordance with company policy.
2. Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Coordinate semi-monthly payroll processing in our PEO platform, maintaining accurate employee rosters and records.
- Perform routine payroll reconciliations and prepare supporting payroll schedules for month-end close and audit review.
3. Tax & Compliance Support
- Prepare and submit monthly multi-state sales tax filings using Avalara, ensuring returns are submitted accurately ahead of deadlines.
- Help maintain compliance calendars for annual state filings and business license renewals.
4. General Ledger & Month-End Support
- Assist with month-end close schedules, variance checks, and documentation of routine workflows.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 2–4 years of practical accounting experience (AP, payroll, or general ledger support).
- Proactive Mindset: Resourceful and self-motivated. You naturally take initiative to track down answers and resolve routine operational roadblocks.
- Accounting Foundation: Good working knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting principles, and basic month-end close routines.
- Systems & Software Exposure: Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online, strong Excel skills, and exposure to tools like Avalara (sales tax), PEO platforms (payroll), or subscription billing/CRM software (Maxio, Salesforce, HubSpot).
Salary and Benefits
- Salary will range from $85,000 to $105,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
