About Overgrad
Overgrad is on a mission to give K-12 school districts and organizations across the United States superpowers as they work to improve the access their students have to postsecondary pathways.
We do this by building tools and trainings that help districts and organizations learn from and leverage their student data with the aim of increasing the likelihood of success after high school. We are looking for more people to join us on our mission to ensure that all students have a clear and supported path to future opportunities. You will be joining a team that works with some of the most innovative organizations in the college and career readiness space, including KIPP, IDEA, New York City Public Schools and Houston Independent School District.
Role
You will be our first dedicated Account Executive, and this is a full-cycle role. You will own the entire sales process, from finding a district or organization to signing the contract. You will build most of your own pipeline, run discovery and demos, navigate procurement, and close. There is no BDR team or inbound flood waiting for you. You will be the person who figures out where our next customers are and goes and gets them.
Working closely with our Head of Growth, you will help shape how Overgrad sells as we grow. What you learn about which districts and organizations buy, why they buy, and how they buy will become the playbook for every sales hire after you. We want someone who is excited to build, not someone looking to inherit a territory.
This role is uncapped. If you build pipeline and close deals, you will be well rewarded for it, with room to grow into a Senior Account Executive role.
Key Problems You Will Help Us Solve
Pipeline Growth
- Build a bigger top of funnel made up of districts and organizations that are a real fit, not volume for its own sake.
Market Access
- Open doors through BOCES, education service centers, cooperatives, and conferences where our buyers already gather.
Full-Cycle Closing
- Take deals from first call to signed contract, including multi-stakeholder buying committees and public procurement.
Sales Playbook
- Turn what works into a repeatable process that future sales hires can follow.
You Will Do This By
Prospecting & Pipeline Building · 40%
- Researching target districts and organizations to understand their priorities, budget cycles, and decision makers before the first conversation.
- Running consistent outbound through email, phone, LinkedIn, and your own network to self-source the majority of your pipeline.
- Working BOCES, education service centers, and purchasing cooperatives to reach multiple districts and organizations at once.
- Booking meetings ahead of regional and national conferences and following up quickly afterward.
Closing Deals · 45%
- Running discovery calls and demos that connect district and organization goals to what Overgrad does.
- Engaging multiple stakeholders, from superintendents and CAOs to directors and counselors, so no deal depends on one person.
- Managing proposals, pricing conversations, and procurement steps through to a signed contract.
- Handing off new customers smoothly to our implementation team.
Building the Playbook · 15%
- Keeping our CRM accurate so we can forecast and learn from every deal.
- Sharing what you hear in the field with the Head of Growth to sharpen our targeting and messaging.
- Updating sales and marketing materials with our team, including one-pagers, the pitch deck, demo script, case studies, and email templates, so they reflect what resonates with buyers.
- Documenting what works so the next sales hire can ramp faster.
About You
You Are a Hunter
- You don't wait for leads. You find them, and you've done it before in a new territory.
- You are motivated by closing deals and by the earnings that come with them.
You Believe Deeply in Equity of Access
- You understand that every district and organization has its own context, and you sell by understanding the real problems administrators face.
You Thrive in a Small, Fast-Paced Team
- You are comfortable building from scratch without a big BDR team or marketing machine behind you.
- You are excited to shape how a company sells, not just follow an existing script.
You Know the Education Market
- You understand how districts and organizations buy, from budget cycles to board approvals to procurement.
- You know where our buyers gather and how to turn a conference into real meetings.
Qualifications
- 3+ years in a closing sales role with a track record of hitting or exceeding quota.
- Experience selling to K-12 districts and organizations or the public sector. Experience in college and career readiness is a strong plus.
- A history of self-sourcing a meaningful share of your own pipeline.
- Familiarity with BOCES, education service centers, or purchasing cooperatives is a plus.
- Comfort with long sales cycles, multiple stakeholders, and formal procurement, including RFPs.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You can run a crisp demo and write a clear follow-up.
- Experience with a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, including about 8 conferences a year and customer meetings.
