We're looking for a talented Senior Frontend Engineer who is passionate about changing the way people learn English. As an FE Engineer @ Cambly, you'll be part of a fast-moving engineering team of ~15 engineers. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-performance features while maintaining a robust, scalable codebase. You'll be a key contributor to most feature work and have significant ownership over our entire Frontend platform.
Our app is built on NextJS // React // TypeScript.

Come help us:
  • Conceive, design, build, and launch new user-facing features
  • Lead development of new features and improvements for Cambly’s Student and Tutor experience.
  • Optimize performance and ensure a smooth, high-quality teaching & learning experience.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to build product experiences that help students find the perfect tutor, create a learning plan, and build their English Fluency.
  • Maintain a high code quality product through code reviews, testing, and best practices.

Work on projects like:
  • Building a tutor discovery experience that is fun, engaging, and effective at connecting students with the perfect tutor
  • Creating a classroom experience where lesson content is generated by AI to be tailored to the learner's needs
  • Building post-lesson activities that are curated to fit each learner's areas for improvement

About you:
  • 3+ years of full-stack development experience
    • 2+ years of experience with React
  • Experience working with NoSQL databases like MongoDB
  • Experience building and maintaining production systems using tools like Lighthouse, Sentry, New Relic, etc.
  • Good understanding of frontend technologies, patterns, and best practices.
  • Good understanding of backend systems, patterns, and best practices.
  • Passion for building products that have a real impact on users.

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the expected base salary range for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
