Where we Work
Udemy is a global company headquartered in San Francisco, with additional U.S. offices in Denver and Austin, and international hubs in Australia, India, Ireland, Mexico, and Türkiye.
This is an in-office position, requiring three days a week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

About this role
As Udemy’s Global Tax Director, you’ll lead the global income tax function, overseeing critical aspects of tax planning, compliance, reporting, and strategy. You will play an important role in shaping Udemy’s global tax structure, ensuring compliance across jurisdictions, optimizing tax efficiency, and partnering closely with finance and business leaders to support the company’s continued international growth.
 
What you’ll be doing
  • Own and lead Udemy’s global income tax function, including direct taxes, tax accounting, instructor tax withholding program and global transfer pricing.
  • Drive global tax strategy, identifying planning opportunities and managing risks across our international footprint.
  • Lead the preparation and review of global tax provision and related disclosures for financial statements and SEC filings.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and oversee tax audits, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Oversee U.S. withholding tax compliance for global instructor payments, ensuring proper documentation, reporting, and remittance.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and HR teams on tax matters related to cross-border transactions, M&A, equity compensation, and intercompany arrangements.
  • Partner with external tax advisors to ensure accurate compliance and to monitor regulatory changes affecting the business.
  • Implement scalable processes and technology solutions to streamline tax operations as Udemy continues to grow.
  • Provide thought leadership and education to cross-functional teams on tax implications of business decisions.
 
What you’ll have  
  • 10+ years of relevant tax experience, including time spent in public accounting and in-house roles at global companies.
  • Strong technical knowledge in U.S. federal, international, and indirect taxation, as well as tax accounting (ASC 740).
  • Demonstrated experience with multinational operations, especially in high-growth tech or digital services companies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a track record of building and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience overseeing U.S. withholding tax compliance for global instructor payments is a plus.

Actual compensation for this role is based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, and specific work location due to differences in the cost of labor. In addition to a base salary, this role is also eligible for equity and a bonus.

$204,000—$255,000 USD
