Job Description 
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:
The Graduation Certification Specialist will report to the Graduation/Course Substitution Manager. The primary responsibility is to perform degree audits and all aspects of the graduation certification process. This position will track graduation data for reporting, including unsuccessful graduation attempts, to identify barriers to graduation in support of the college’s strategic initiative to increase degree completion rates.

Functional Responsibilities:Performs official degree audits and certification of graduation applicants, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional requirements. Responsible for creating and executing communication to students related to graduation deadlines Provides critical administrative support for strategic initiative to increase degree completion; establishes and maintains graduation application files Amends student records, including change of information and degree posting Maintains student records for accuracy and integrity Confirm and update student’s graduation records in PeopleSoft Manages the college’s graduation application Communicate with academic deans and department chairs when necessary to confirm and process course substitutions Proactively research potential graduates who have completed all requirements Maintains graduation and commencement web pages Assist with the Reverse Transfer program Other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental needs.

KSA's/Required Qualifications  | Strong knowledge of FERPA and accreditation standards Knowledge of a student information system, degree audits systems or the use of query tools for extracting and reporting student information Skills in researching and resolving questions and problems presented by students, college faculty, administration, and staff. Outstanding customer service skills, including assisting students in challenging customer service situations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including oral and written. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suites, particularly Work Excel, Access, and PowerPoint Ability to exercise judgment and find solutions to complex problems Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline driven environment
