Graphic Designer Full Description

Overview: 
The Graphic Designer develops visual designs to support a variety of projects for Penn College, including publications, advertisements, digital graphics, and promotional materials. This role works within established brand standards to create clear and engaging materials. This position collaborates with members of the creative, marketing, and communications teams to prepare and deliver high-quality, approved assets for print and digital distribution, working under established processes and creative direction and within project timelines.

EDUCATION
  • Associate's Degree in Advertising Art or related discipline. Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Advertising Art, Graphic Design or related discipline. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
  • Two (2) year's of relevant work experience. Required

ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • Ability to understand project objectives and recognize how assigned work supports departmental and College goals. Required
  • Ability to organize visual and written content for clarity and readability. Required
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on assigned design tasks. Required
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud design tools, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Required
  • Skill in developing original visual designs while adhering to established brand guidelines. Required
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously and to meet production deadlines, often requiring very quick turnaround. Required
  • Must understand design, typography, paper and color selection, and technical aspects of the publishing process including printing/finishing capabilities. Required
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative and creative development team Required
  • Ability to effectively proofread materials to ensure accuracy Required
 
Responsibilities: 
Create artwork and full layouts for web, digital, print, environmental graphics, and promotional materials.
Provide creative input as part of the team for the College’s marketing and PR campaigns.
Collaborate with clients and project leads throughout the design process to ensure accuracy and to support successful project completion.
Work with the MARCOM team to create materials reflecting client and institutional goals.
Align designs with the College’s brand strategy and style guide.
Make design decisions within established direction and brand standards.
Select brand-appropriate colors, paper, typography, and design formats in accordance with brand guidelines.
Review, edit, proofread, and critique content for accuracy and brand consistency.
Maintain awareness of assigned project timelines and deliverables to ensure on-time completion of work. Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
Develop and distribute accurate proofs that meet project requirements.
Ensure completed projects meet goals efficiently, utilizing available resources.
Design issues of the College’s magazine in collaboration with senior designers and editors.
Attend photo shoots to support creative direction provided by project leads.
Attend campus events as assigned to support future project needs.
Provide design support for materials produced by other departments.
Offer guidance on visual standards when requested.
Provide approved College logos and images following brand procedures.
Consult with specialists and vendors to ensure quality production in coordination with project leads.
Use MARCOM’s photography database for photo selections following standard procedures.
Use MARCOM’s scheduling database to record and track project status for assigned projects.
  • Limited exposure to chemicals and other substances related to the graphics and printing process.
  • Exposure to computer monitors and other conditions related to using computers over extended periods of time. Active office environment.
  • Constant deadline pressures.
