Job Description  | Honors Program Advisor requested to meet the academic needs of students and programmatic needs of the Honors Program. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Honors Program. The position advises Honors students among the University’s most outstanding undergraduates on the Honors curriculum and program requirements and on general academic challenges and opportunities.

Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s and research experience preferred. 1-5 years of experience in academic advising preferred.

Skills and Knowledge  | Must be an excellent communicator and strong writer; a dedicated mentor; collegial in working with faculty and staff members engaged in mutual projects supporting students. Must have the wide-ranging general knowledge necessary to advise undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni engaged in a variety of academic and pre-professional fields; extensive knowledge of University curricula, advising, and administrative processes. Adept with understanding and communicating research at the undergraduate and graduate level. MS Office, including MS Access; WordPress, and contemporary and evolving social media platforms.
Responsibilities  | General Honors Advising Help students coordinate Honors requirements with major requirements; career mentoring; post-graduate education counseling; explore internships and networking options with students; help undecided/exploring students think through alternatives and devise a plan to select a major; work as part of the team keeping student records accurate and up to date in the Honors database; help students manage academic stress. Honors Thesis Advising Help students generate: Thesis topics that map to their interests and strengths; approach potential Thesis Advisors; craft strong proposals and updates; and troubleshoot problems. Track student progress to successful completion.  Honors Program Auditing and Communications Support advising team in program audits, regular communications with assigned cohort, maintain up-to-date and accurate student records utilizing program databasesHonors Community SupportAssist with enhancing Honors community through support of academic and community enhancement events, such as Living Learning Community activities, Honors student group programming and Honors orientation.Other duties as assigned
