Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

The HR Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the Office of the Senior Vice President & Provost by managing payroll and human resources functions for the Provost's Office and its reporting units. This position offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of HR operations—including payroll administration, faculty and staff appointments, onboarding, and benefits support—while serving as a trusted resource for employees, faculty, and administrators. This individual possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and excellent service delivery across the Division of Academic Affairs.

Physical Demands: This position is primarily sedentary in nature. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time and to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

Preferences: Two (2) years of HR experience at the University of Maryland. Experience supporting UMD faculty HR processes and appointments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of professional human resources experience.

Other:
Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
Knowledge of proper protocol in handling confidential information.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Skill in analytical and strategic thinking.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response. 
Ability to manage multiple priorities while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
