THE ROLE 

The Human Resources (HR) Coordinator is a hands-on role that provides Employee Relations and Human Resources support to employees and Field Operations within an assigned region. The HR Coordinator is responsible for the initial intake, documentation, coordination, and timely handling of employee matters, including workplace investigations, Workers’ Compensation, attendance and policy guidance, employee inquiries, and other People Operations processes. 

This role requires strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and sound judgment. The HR Coordinator will independently manage assigned employee matters while partnering with Senior HR Coordinators and Employee Relations leadership for guidance, review, and escalation when appropriate. The ideal candidate is comfortable having sensitive employee conversations, preparing clear and professional documentation, managing multiple priorities, and following cases through completion. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support Managers and Employees in resolving a variety of employee relations matters, including conducting meetings to understand concerns, gathering relevant information, addressing workplace issues, and providing guidance on company policies and procedures. 

  • Conduct workplace investigations and fact-finding, including employee interviews, documentation of findings, and preparation of preliminary HR recommendations, escalating complex or sensitive matters for additional review as appropriate. 

  • Provide initial case management and support for work-related injury claims, including employee outreach, gathering required information, monitoring treatment and work status, and coordinating with Field Operations and the HR Admin to support timely follow-up, accommodations, and return-to-work planning. Escalate ongoing or complex Workers’ Compensation matters as appropriate. 

  • Review employee documentation, including doctor’s notes and attendance-related information, and provide guidance regarding Paid Sick Leave, attendance, and applicable company procedures. 

  • Respond to employee and management inquiries through designated HR channels and conduct initial intake of employee concerns, ensuring matters are addressed, assigned, or escalated appropriately. 

  • Assist with unemployment claims, wage audits, labor commission matters, and virtual hearings as needed. 

  • Support Department of Justice (DOJ) notification processes in partnership with the HR Compliance Coordinator and HR leadership. 

  • Support End-of-Program, resignation, termination, and other employment-status processes, coordinating with the HR Admin for applicable administrative and system updates. 

  • Maintain accurate HR case files, trackers, and documentation to support timely case management, reporting, and follow-up. 

  • Support the Employee Relations Manager and Senior HR Coordinators by educating employees and managers on HR processes and assisting with the implementation and maintenance of company policies and Standard Operating Procedures. 

  • Attend monthly in-office meetings and participate in HR Office Hours, trainings, and other People Operations initiatives as assigned. 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Requirements: 

  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience, including experience supporting Employee Relations matters. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace. 

  • Experience working with HRIS and HR case management systems; experience with ADP, HubSpot, or similar platforms is preferred. 

  • Working knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, policies, and procedures. 

  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee matters with professionalism and discretion. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with employees and management. 

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, follow established processes, and recognize when matters require escalation. 

  • Must be willing to travel to the Central Office in Pacific Beach, San Diego, 1–2 times per month to collect HR-related mail and documents and attend monthly in-office meetings. 

  • HR certification is a plus.

This position's target annual base pay range is $44,000–$56,000. Final pay determinations may depend on various factors including, but not limited to, experience level, education, geographical location, knowledge, and skills.
