Identity Management Specialist Full Description

Job Description
The Identity Management Specialist reports to the Manager, Identity Management Customer Support (IMCS). IMCS is a unit within the Secure Identity Services (SIS) department in the Division of Information Technology. The Identity Management Specialist provides service to the university community by facilitating identity and access needs of the Virginia Tech community and protects university and user data by ensuring correct authentication and authorization for end-users and services. Using University and IT policies and procedures provides access to university resources based on users’ attributes, affiliations, and roles. Password resets, facilitating and troubleshooting user access issues, validating and verifying authorization requests, facilitating approval flows, and provisioning/deprovisioning of user accounts and entitlements are all common activities. Contributes to functional requirements for IMCS business processes and administrative tools.

Required Qualifications
- Experience with Identity Management concepts and processes including authorization, authentication, segregation of duties, etc.
- Knowledge of access control systems with respect to Oracle Databases, Active Directory, Exchange, LDAP, etc.
- Experience using an ITSM tool such as ServiceNow
- Demonstrated discretion while handling confidential or personal data
- Excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience with business processes and applications supporting higher education
- Experience with ERP support, especially application security and user management
- Experience writing and executing SQL queries
