Job Title: Instructional and eLearning Designer

Location: New Brighton, MN - Onsite 

APi Group is transforming how we impact our field leaders.  As a field-focused Instructional and eLearning Designer on our corporate Learning & Development Team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering engaging learning experiences, both in-person and online, that support leadership development across our global operating companies.  You will support leadership and professional development initiatives through the creation of targeted learning experiences and media-based learning assets. 

You will apply adult learning strategies and collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), business leaders, and the Learning & Development team to design and develop impactful learning solutions for our field leaders. Learning product deliverables may include eLearning (self-paced, interactive simulations) courses, videos, gamification, student guides, etc.  You will play a key role in more deeply embedding our enduring purpose of Building Great Leaders throughout the organization. 

What You Will Do 

Own the Design and Development of Learning Content for Our Field Teammates 
  • Create SCORM-compliant eLearning modules, microlearning assets, and blended learning experiences using tools like Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, and Camtasia.  
  • Develop engaging instructional materials including facilitator guides, student guides, and interactive media.  
  • Create high quality video content including planning, filming, and coordinating shoots with familiarity in lighting, audio, and on-location recording. 
  • Edit and produce video and audio assets, including podcasts.  
  • Create interactive learning tools to ensure retention of learning materials, ensuring teammates grow both personally and professionally.  
  • Apply adult learning theory, scenario-based learning, and inclusive design principles to all content. 

Collaborate and Consult 
  • Partner with SMEs, field leaders, and global business units to assess learning needs, define learning objectives, gather insights, and ensure accuracy, relevance, and authenticity of content. 
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams.  
  • Partner with the L&D team to design, develop, and refine learning. 

Manage Learning Projects 
  • Lead instructional design projects from concept to delivery, including needs analysis, scoping, timelines, scripts, storyboarding, prototyping, and QA testing. 
  • Maintain project documentation and versioning for annual course updates.  
  • Independently manage multiple global projects at one time, using prioritization skills and attention to detail. 

Support LMS Integration and create strategies for deployment 
  • Work with LMS administrators to upload, test, and troubleshoot courses. 
  • Ensure accurate tagging and reporting for leadership learning credit and compliance tracking.  
  • Develop strategies for delivering content to the field leaders 
  • Create design documentation that communicates learning objectives, content structure, assessment measures, and learning impact (i.e. business results) 

Continuous Improvement 
  • Analyze learner feedback and course analytics to improve learning effectiveness. 
  • Stay current with trends in instructional design, eLearning technology, and leadership development. 
  • Redesign content to fit learners’ needs.  

Basic Requirements 
  • Bachelor’s degree in HRD, Instructional Design, Education, or related field. 
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design and eLearning development. 
  • Proficiency in video editing tools and eLearning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Cloud, Camtasia). 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). 
  • Experience with LMS platforms and SCORM/AICC standards. 
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, scenario-based learning, and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and technology within the learning and development field. 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, project management skills, and an ability to work independently, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work in a variety of conditions (including job sites in adverse weather conditions and occasionally untraditional hours to accommodate our global team). 
  • Requires 15% travel. 

Preferred Qualifications 
  • Adult Learning certification. 
  • Experience designing leadership development content for frontline teams. 
  • Understand the unique challenges of reaching our field. 
  • Ability to leverage AI tools to enhance the learners’ experience, including language translations. 
  • Experience with video and audio recording and editing. 
  • OSHA 10 certification (or the ability to earn it upon hiring).

This role will be based out of our New Brighton office. The pay range is $80,000 - $115,000, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for annual bonus and profit sharing based on company performance in addition to other benefits that support the total well-being of you and your family.
