Job Description
Instructional Assistants support certified teachers by facilitating instructional activities, managing classroom behavior, and providing individualized or small-group assistance to students. This role is crucial in creating a positive and effective learning environment, particularly for students who require additional support.

The role is performed in a standard classroom setting, which may include special education environments. Duties may involve exposure to various student behaviors and require flexibility to adapt to different instructional needs.​

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing instructional activities and lesson plans as directed by the lead teacher.
  • Support students with academic tasks, including reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Prepare and organize classroom materials and resources.
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, recess, and transitions to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group support to students needing additional assistance.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate student behavior and academic progress with teachers, staff, and parents.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations and district policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions as required.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by school and district leaders to support student achievement, school culture, and team collaboration.

Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree or at least two years (60 hours) of higher education; or passed the ParaPro Assessment.
  • Licenses: Certified Teaching Assistant (CTA) preferred.
  • Experience: Prior teaching experience in educational settings or working with children preferred.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprinting and child maltreatment registry checks.
  • Ongoing participation in professional development activities as required by ADE.
  • Strong knowledge in core academic subjects; proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience teaching in a KIPP or other high-performing charter school environment preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Additional Information
Instructional Assistant salaries will be based on individual experience and within the SY 2025-26 Salary Schedule range.
