About the Job
The Instructional Content Developer is a subject matter expert with experience in the optical industry who plays a pivotal role in shaping the learning journey of AEG Vision employees across the country. This role is responsible for designing and developing impactful learning experiences for optical retail and medical environments, supporting front-line teams, field leaders, and cross-functional partners throughout a rapidly expanding healthcare network.
This position leads the creation of educational content from concept to completion, ensuring each initiative is engaging, accurate, and aligned with business goals. Key responsibilities include curriculum design, content writing, editorial development, project management, and quality assurance. The Instructional Content Developer will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, review and refine course materials, and ensure consistency and excellence across all training assets.
Content Design & Development
- Write, develop, and design engaging training materials for eLearning, print, and in-person delivery, including slide presentations, interactive modules, videos, manuals, guides, and facilitator resources.
- Apply instructional design principles to create effective, learner-centered content aligned with defined learning objectives.
- Enhance learning experiences using multimedia elements such as graphics, animations, video, and simulations.
- Leverage AI tools and emerging learning technologies to streamline content development and enrich the learner experience.
- Adapt quickly to new software platforms and tools used for content creation and learning management.
Collaboration & Subject Matter Expertise
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, field leaders, and cross-functional partners to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment with business goals.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of optical industry terminology, products, systems, and workflows to inform content decisions.
- Support internal teams by reviewing and editing training materials developed across departments.
Quality Assurance & Maintenance
- Review and revise existing training materials to reflect product, process, or system updates.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure content meets brand, instructional, and compliance standards.
- Maintain consistency and excellence across all training materials and learning experiences.
Implementation & Evaluation
- Assist in the implementation and rollout of training programs across various teams and locations.
- Evaluate training effectiveness using learner feedback, assessments, and performance metrics.
- Provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement based on evaluation results and business needs.
Project & Program Management
- Manage multiple training projects simultaneously, from initial concept through development, launch, and refinement.
- Coordinate timelines and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope.
- Contribute to building scalable training programs that support organizational growth and learning culture.
Requirements
- Education & Background:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning and Development, Journalism/Communications, or a combination of related experience. Healthcare and medical experience, especially in optical setting, preferred.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, educational publishing, publication design, and graphic design.
- 3+ years experience with optical settings.
- Understanding of field enablement, onboarding processes, or behavior-based training models.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft 365 Suite
- Bonus: Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Captivate).
- Bonus: Advanced skills in multimedia software for content creation, LMS experience (Cornerstone preferred).
- Instructional Design Expertise:
- Understands and executes the full L&D lifecycle.
- Strong understanding and application of instructional design principles.
- Proven experience designing materials organically from conception.
- Strong writing and formatting skills for adult learners
- Project Management
- Proven ability to manage multiple learning initiatives simultaneously.
