Instructional Designer Full Description

Job Title: Instructional Designer

Type: Part-Time, Independent Contractor for Education to Change the World
official business entity: Julie Stern Consulting, LLC

Description:
Join a global effort to design learning that empowers students to become independent, adaptable, life-long learners that make the world a better place.

We’re hiring independent, part-time Instructional Designers to create resources and learning experiences that help teachers move from isolated content to connected, transferable understanding. Working alongside Julie Stern, a four-time bestselling author and education thought leader, you’ll design materials used across international schools to support deeper, transferable learning.

This is a remote role, available to anyone in any location to apply.

Primary Responsibilities:
Design and develop instructional resources aligned to essential concepts across disciplines and grade levels (PreK–upper secondary). Applicants should specify the age groups and subject areas for which they are qualified to design classroom based instructional materials.

The Instructional Designer will translate articulated concepts into a consistent suite of classroom-ready materials that support conceptual understanding, pattern recognition, and transfer. This includes developing structured learning experiences that incorporate visual representations, clear and age-appropriate definitions, inquiry-based prompts, real-world connections, and transfer tasks.

The work builds on existing internal resources while contributing to a coherent, organization-wide approach to conceptual transfer design.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Evidence of designing or teaching for conceptual understanding and transfer of learning to new situations.
  • Experience developing high-quality instructional materials, curriculum resources, or learning experiences.
  • Strong understanding of learning design grounded in research, particularly in areas such as conceptual understanding, visible learning, schema building, and transfer.
  • Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, structured, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Productive disposition, including a love of learning, intellectual curiosity, willingness to take risks, and commitment to continuous growth.
  • Highly organized, with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to clarity, coherence, and detail.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace.
  • Permission or ‘green light’ from current supervisor, principal, or head of school if in a full-time role.

Schedule and Compensation:
  • This is a part-time position with flexible hours, averaging approximately 5-10 hours per week, with potential for more.
  • Compensation is a paid-by-resource-created structure, so the time it takes to complete each resource is person dependent.
  • The position is remote, allowing for flexible scheduling and the ability to work from any location.

Application Instructions:
To apply for this position, please submit a resume and short cover letter outlining your qualifications according to the qualifications listed, along with at least three professional references: name, title, email, and relationship (how this person witnessed your professional capacity). Applications should be sent to info@juliehstern.com. The deadline for applications is May 8, 2026.
