The Instructional Designer is part of a dynamic, forward-thinking training team at Temple Harrisburg.  The Instructional Designer designs and enhances highly interactive credit and non-credit offerings for internal and external stakeholders to promote a learner-focused culture.  The Instructional Designer supports program offerings across a variety of modalities including onsite, blended, online, and synchronous and asynchronous eLearning delivery through the use of workshops, trainings and individual consultation.  The Instructional Designer works directly and collaboratively with program directors and staff, instructors, faculty and subject matter experts to research, plan, design, develop, evaluate, and revise courses, workshops, and materials, emphasizing best practices in instructional design and effective use of technology for teaching and learning, including accessible and inclusive design principles.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:  
A Bachelor’s Degree 

At least 1 year of experience in instructional technology, education, information technology, information sciences, course design, curriculum design, e-learning, training or similar roll curriculum design in a related field

Experience with online course management systems and tools

Experience with graphic and multimedia authoring software and website design software

 An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

A Master’s degree in instructional technology, education, information technology, curriculum design or related field is preferred, as is experience in a higher education environment

Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-led programs
  • Experience with adult learning theories, interactive training, e-learning design principles and on demand instruction and evaluation methods
  • Ability to produce training materials in a variety of formats using the latest industry tools
  • Knowledge of modern computing, networking and communications systems and skill in use of technology applications
  • Ability to gather and analyze data from various sources, identify issues and trends and assist in development of plans accordingly
  • Proficient communication skills – written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and facilitation
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development
  • Demonstrated expertise with Canvas and/or other leading LMS product
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional design software including Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, video editing software, and other design tools and interface design methodologies
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements in online course delivery
  • Demonstrated understanding of different operating systems, Windows and Mac OS along with experience working hands on with laptops and PCs
  • Demonstrated real-time web conferencing expertise, WebEx or Zoom preferred
  • Commitment to high quality in the development and maintenance of training materials that are user friendly, effective, and appealing
  • Ability to handle multiple and simultaneous tasks
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
  • Proven ability to creatively solve problems
  • A genuine desire to help internal external customers
  • A track record for going the extra mile to make sure tasks are done efficiently and completely
  • Ability to work independently and identify potentially more effective methods of work operation
  • Travel required (10-15%) primarily for event support and course effectiveness evaluation

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
