Description
The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for designing, developing, and improving learning experiences that support business performance, safety, quality, and leadership effectiveness. This role translates real business needs into practical, learner-centered solutions that work in both field and office environments.

This is not a purely academic design role. The Instructional Designer partners closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), leaders, and L&D teammates to create learning experiences. Beginning to end, that is clear, usable, and applied to the job.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Design & Development
  • Design and develop learning solutions using sound instructional design principles (e.g., adult learning, performance-based design)
  • Create a variety of learning assets, including:
    • Instructor-led training (ILT) materials
    • eLearning modules
    • Toolkits, job aids, and field-friendly resources
    • Participant guides, facilitator guides, and slide decks
  • Ensure learning is practical, concise, and focused on on-the-job application
 
Needs Analysis & Consulting
  • Partner with L&D and business stakeholders to clarify learning needs and performance gaps
  • Ask the right questions to determine whether training is the right solution
  • Translate business goals into measurable learning objectives

SME Partnership
  • Work directly with subject matter experts to extract knowledge and structure content
  • Challenge “content dumps” and help SMEs focus on what learners actually need to do
  • Manage timelines and expectations with SMEs
 
Standards & Quality
  • Apply L&D design standards, templates, and branding consistently
  • Ensure learning assets are accessible, scalable, and easy to maintain
  • Participate in content reviews and revisions based on feedback and outcomes
 
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
  • Support evaluation of learning effectiveness (reaction, learning, application)
  • Use feedback and data to refine and improve learning assets over time
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of L&D processes and tools
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, Human Resources, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of instructional design or learning development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to design learning for adult learners
  • Strong writing and content-structuring skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing learning in the corporate setting
  • Familiarity with LMS platforms and learning technologies
  • Experience working in construction, manufacturing, operations, or similarly complex environments
  • Experience applying change management or performance support approaches
