SALARY:
 
$68,000 - $83,400 per year. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Primary Purpose

The Instructional Designer will apply instructional design theories and methodologies to support and consult with faculty in developing and facilitating high-quality courses across all modalities. This role focuses on coaching, guidance, and collaboration, ensuring that instructional content and assessments align with best practices in course design, accessibility standards, and copyright policies.

Essential Job Functions

Assist faculty and relevant stakeholders in building courses in the Canvas™ learning management system (LMS) in alignment with the University’s established standards of quality and design, ‘regular and substantive engagement’ (RSI) obligations, and accessibility requirements. 

Participate in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and quality assurance course audits prior to course publication; review as needed thereafter and share feedback with faculty. 
Ensure alignment of instructional content and assessments with course learning objectives and guidelines for accessibility and applicable copyright laws. 
Build interactive instructional content using authoring tools such as Articulate and H5P. 
Develop and present training for relevant instructional technologies. 
Research and suggest emerging technologies to support instruction. 
Support pilot studies which impact learning initiatives. 
Participate in special projects as assigned. 
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher from an accredited institution in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least one (1) year of professional level experience in instruction, instructional technology, and/or higher education learning opportunity development.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with learning management systems (i.e., D2L Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle, etc.) to create and manage online courses, user accounts, course settings and enrollment options. 
Experience with a course quality tool (Quality Matters, OSCQR, etc.). 
Experience working with a variety of web conferencing, presentation, distance learning, and video editing tools and software. 
Experience managing web sites. 
Experience building interactive instructional content via Camtasia, Articulate, HTML5, or other such tools 
Experience with UDL (Universal Design for Learning) principles 
Experience with HTML coding or other programming experience. 
Experience teaching and supporting individuals new to technology.  
Demonstrated experience in developing and designing interactive educational products using a wide spectrum of current educational technologies.  
Experience working as part of a team to identify new design methodologies, delivery techniques, and educational technologies.
