The Instructional Designer will work as an integral part of a collaborative instructional development team responsible for the assessment, design, development, and evaluation of the department's education and training programs. The Instructional Designer must be able to independently develop entry and advanced level courses using a variety of multimedia technology and authoring tools.
This is a remote position located in the United States. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas now or in the future.
Essential Functions
- Planning, analysis, design, development, deployment, and evaluation of learning materials:
- Develop instructional design plans for training programs, including defining objectives, and clarifying content structure within pre-established timelines.
- Analyze content, target audience, job tasks, and learner environment to identify appropriate instructional strategies and define learning objectives.
- Gather and analyze input of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and modify instructional material.
- Identify user needs, analyze, and logically organize complex technical information, and transform complex bodies of information into professionally designed, engaging and effective programs.
- Develop interactive training materials that include sound instructional design methodology including presentations, instructor and participant guides, classroom activities, practice exercises, and handouts.
- Develop sound assessments for ILT and E-Learning courses.
- Develop materials using the ADDIE Model
- Conduct reviews of deliverables for instructional quality and soundness. Attend program pilots (Alphas, Betas, and preview courses) for developed content.
- Analyze data to determine changes that may be necessary to course content.
- Build content within the learning management system (LMS), as needed.
- Manage and maintain key components of the intranet, as assigned.
- Manage user-acceptance testing (UAT) for newly introduced or modified content.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design or related field
- 2 or more years working in an Instructional Design role with responsibility for end-to-end creation of instructor-led and/or e-learning materials.
- Preferred, but not required:
- Instructional design experience in the construction, doors, frame, hardware, architectural, or security integrations services industry—OR—instructional design experience in a technical services field such as health services or information sciences.
- Experience working with and LMS (uploading SCORM/AICC, testing loaded materials, light troubleshooting of loaded courses).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have exceptional oral communication abilities and positive interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse audiences and foster a collaborative learning environment.
- Demonstrates strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills to manage multiple training programs, materials, and documentation efficiently.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively, balancing multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining high-quality training delivery.
- Ability to gather, collate, and classify data accurately, utilizing job-related equipment and software. Flexibility in working with data through defined yet varied processes and interpreting guidelines independently to solve problems.
- Competence in operating job-related technology using standardized methods. Problem-solving with technology is required, though typically limited to moderate levels of complexity.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups, adapting to changing work priorities, and maintaining constructive relationships.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues, develop action plans, and address challenges, particularly with data interpretation and equipment usage.
- Preferred knowledge of construction and architectural software, including BlueBeam Revu, Comsense Advantage, and Comsense Enterprise, with the ability to confidently train others on these platforms.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and its applications, including Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Business Central (BC), with the ability to incorporate these tools into training programs.
- Computer Skills
- Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, or equivalent
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome
- Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent
- Canva or equivalent
- Collaboration Software (i.e., Microsoft Teams)
- Understanding of floorplans/blueprints and graphs preferred
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this role, the employee will regularly communicate verbally and in writing, and must be able to see and hear in a typical office setting. The role frequently involves sitting, walking, standing, using hands to handle or feel, and reaching with arms and hands.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. It routinely involves the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, and filing systems. Occasional business travel may be required.
