What You'll Do

Avalara is looking for an Instructional Designer to design performance-driven learning experiences that directly impact revenue productivity and operational excellence within Avalara's Enablement organization. You will partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex tax, product, and sales concepts into clear, measurable learning solutions. You will also build scalable certification and capability programs that support our global GTM teams and drive measurable skill adoption.

You will be able to work remotely and report to Enablement Leadership as part of the Learning Strategy & Design team.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • You will conduct performance and learner analysis; define measurable goals using Backwards Design and Action Mapping principles.
  • You will develop eLearning, instructor-led workshops, certification materials, and executive-ready PowerPoint presentations that simplify complex information into structured, visually compelling content.
  • You will collaborate with SMEs to translate expertise into clear learning assets, aligned assessments, and performance support tools.
  • You will measure program effectiveness using learner data and evaluation models; iterate based on insights.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful
  • 5+ years of experience designing instructional solutions in a corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise applying outcome-based design methodologies and writing measurable learning goals.
  • Advanced PowerPoint, with the ability to simplify complex material into clear frameworks and executive-ready presentations.
  • Experience developing eLearning using authoring tools such as Articulate 360 or similar platforms.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to accelerate content development, scenario creation, or workflow efficiency.
  • Proficient writer who can translate complex ideas into clear learning content and deliver high-quality work

Pay Range Details

The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be
different in other locations.

Colorado $100,300 - $165,500 (annually) 
Washington $100,300 - $177,200 (annually) 
California $100,300 - $194,300 (annually) 
NYC $110,800 - $194,300 (annually) 

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
