Job Purpose 
The Instructional Designer will work with faculty and programs to enhance the quality of online courses by developing and implementing a quality assurance program consistent with Quality Matters.

Minimum Requirements 
Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. Advanced degree preferred. Experience: 3 years of directly relevant work experience required in higher education, including experience assessing online course curriculum design using the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) or Quality Matters design and evaluation processes.
Preferred Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree Required. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. Advanced degree (EdD or similar) strongly preferred. Experience: 5 years of directly relevant work experience required. At least 3 years of higher education experience in faculty development or instructional design with increasing levels of complexity and/or responsibility strongly preferred including experience assessing online course curriculum design using the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) or Quality Matters design and evaluation processes Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
The successful candidate will demonstrate many of the following preferred qualifications: Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design) Successful design of online courses in a higher education context Experience teaching credit-bearing higher education courses Extensive knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and design approaches, and experience applying this knowledge in classroom teaching and/or design work Familiarity or experience with project management and/or assessment Ability to write and edit html code Familiarity with intentional use of generative AI for course design Familiarity with accessible course design informed by Quality Matters components and digital accessibility consistent with WCAG standards. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills Readiness to take initiative, be self-directed, and apply creativity in accomplishing objectives Eagerness to grow, learn, and develop new skills Eagerness to contribute to highly collaborative and team-based work Preferred Certifications: Quality Matters Certified Higher Ed Peer Reviewer, Quality Matters Teaching Online Certificate, Applying the QM Rubric Course, OLC Online Teaching Certificate, and/or similar.

Additional Skills and Abilities include:
Demonstrating a track record of applying instructional design principles and best practices to the development of college-,graduate,- and doctoral-level courses in online, hybrid and face-to-face course modalities. Working with faculty and consult with academic leadership on pedagogy and course design, development, delivery, and instructional technologies to create and implement effective online learning experiences that engage and support students, including the development of a quality assurance program for online education programs rooted in Quality Matters. Design, develop, and facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty on pedagogy and andragogy and instructional technologies for faculty teaching online courses. Engage in tasks related to course development, including designing, building, revising, and assessing course components. Collaborate with university support staff to promote instructional support initiatives. Create shared resources on pedagogy, course design and instructional technologies for faculty stored on the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning website. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with faculty and across schools and with division of Information Technology to develop high-quality online courses. Proficiency in using technology to enhance teaching and learning, including familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and online course development tools. Solid knowledge of accessibility standards and practices to ensure that all online courses are inclusive and accessible to all students based on best practices outlined in the WCAG standards. Able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines are met, and the quality of work is maintained at a high standard. Maintain competency in innovative strategies and best practices in educational development.
