Job Description:
The Instructional Designer provides the curriculum development team with course design support in creating effective and engaging learning environments and materials informed by desired learning outcomes. The role involves consulting with curriculum developers from diverse disciplines to identify course goals and applicable evidence-based instructional strategies. An area of focus will be the integration of innovative online and technology-enhanced course components to enhance learning across different delivery modes. As a member of the curriculum and instruction online team, the Instructional Designer will collaborate with other team members to provide training to curriculum developers and instructors through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, etc., regarding topics related to online teaching, the Brightspace LMS, course design, and integration of instructional technology. The role also involves creating student training materials to prepare them for the technology and platforms used within SEO courses. Responsibilities include applying instructional design principles to develop learner-centered educational experiences, utilizing pedagogical techniques to create meaningful learning pathways, designing and producing multimedia content, adapting and optimizing existing content for digital platforms, collaborating with subject matter experts and educators, providing leadership on lesson plans and assessments, incorporating diverse teaching methods and technologies, working closely with instructors and stakeholders, ensuring course content accessibility and quality assurance, maintaining knowledge of accessibility best practices, contributing to evaluation frameworks, identifying instructional strategies and technologies, applying project management strategies, ensuring compliance with standards, staying up-to-date with educational technologies, delivering professional development and trainings, coordinating course design projects, and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or related field (Master's preferred), proven experience as an Instructional Designer preferably in education, certifications in online course design preferred, experience across modalities, and skills in instructional design software, multimedia tools, coding, and digital platforms. The role requires excellent communication, collaboration, project management, and problem-solving skills, with a passion for closing opportunity gaps for first-generation and low-income students.
