Summary
Balfour Beatty is seeking an Instructional Designer to join our Leadership Development team. This individual will work a hybrid schedule and preferably report to our Dallas, TX, office. However, individuals who would like to work out of a different U.S.-based Balfour Beatty office will be taken under consideration as well.

The Instructional Designer plays a crucial role in supporting the company's commitment to employee development, compliance training, and professional growth within the construction industry. He or she assesses knowledge gaps, develops and designs content, and evaluates the effectiveness of training. The Instructional Designer will support the smooth execution of learning and development programs while collaborating with training staff, subject matter experts (SMEs) and business units.

Essential Functions

Needs Analysis and Strategy (15%)

  • Partner with training staff and organizational leaders to assess training needs and clarify content requirements.
  • Conduct needs analysis to identify skill, knowledge and performance gaps that inform targeted learning solutions.

Development and Design (50%)

  • Design and develop instructor-led and self-paced content that align with business goals.
  • Collaborate with SMEs, training staff, and leaders to develop effective and engaging learning experiences.
  • Implement branding guidelines, design standards and approved templates to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Create high-quality deliverables such as slide decks, participant handouts, and e-learning modules that are visually appealing and instructionally sound.

Evaluation and Improvement (35%)

  • Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, performance data, and assessment results to drive continuous improvement.
  • Gather and analyze participation, engagement, and completion to inform content enhancements.
  • Identify outdated or low-impact content and revise materials to maintain relevant course offerings.

Education, Experience and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or 4 years of relevant experience in related field; Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or Education
  • Certificate in Instructional Design/Certified Training Professional preferred
  • Work experience in training and curriculum/course design across diverse settings required
  • Experience working with PowerPoint, Articulate 360, and Canva required
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and engaging learning methods required
  • Experience implementing ADDIE model or other ISD models required
  • Experience working with learning technologies or learning management systems (Dayforce, Workday, etc.) preferred

Typical Physical Demands and Work Conditions

Typical Physical Demands: Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, controls, phones and computer keyboard. Frequently stand, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and stoop. Sit and stand to do clerical work. Regularly lift and move office supplies up to 50 lbs.

Typical Work Conditions: Work is performed in a hybrid setting that requires working three days per week at the office and two days per week at home. Employee frequently interacts directly with community management, facilities management, residents and staff members during the workday.
