About Cultivating Literacy
Cultivating Literacy is a nonprofit based in San Jose, CA, dedicated to empowering families and young readers through customized literacy coaching, resources, and culturally responsive programming. We partner with schools to co-create joyful, multilingual learning experiences rooted in family connection and play.
The Role
We are seeking a highly qualified Instructional Designer / Curriculum Developer to design engaging, culturally inclusive literacy content for TK–3rd grade learners. This content will be integrated into our digital literacy portal to support families, coaches, and educators.
Required Qualifications (Please Read Carefully)
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet all three of the following requirements:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (professional working proficiency required)
- Direct classroom experience teaching TK–3rd grade students
- Proven experience in instructional design and/or curriculum development

Responsibilities
- Design and develop bilingual (English/Spanish), age-appropriate literacy activities and resources
- Translate evidence-based reading strategies into clear, family-friendly digital content
- Create engaging, play-based activities using accessible materials
- Align content with early childhood literacy standards and CL’s family-centered approach
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure usability across diverse families and communities
Additional Qualifications
- Strong expertise in early literacy instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension)
- Experience supporting families and multilingual learners
- Ability to create clear, simple instructions for non-educator audiences
- Experience creating digital content (e.g., Google Slides, Canva, instructional videos)
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Position Details
- Type: Contract (Part-Time, Remote)
- Duration: 3–6 months
- Hours: Flexible
- Pay: $25–$35/hour, depending on experience
- Location: U.S.-based (must align with Pacific Time availability)
