Job Description

The Manager, Instructional Designer is a project manager responsible for working with stakeholders in the creation of the highest quality online and hybrid learning experiences in support of the vision and mission of the college. The Manager, Instructional Designer will manage multiple projects and team members working on them through to completion. They will provide leadership for the instructional design teams and the processes they utilize to facilitate collaboration among content stakeholders in the development of instructional content. This position will also assist with the design and development of online and hybrid courses and content. This position requires a positive attitude toward their work, the mission of the institution, continuous learning, collaboration, and providing quality service.

Essential Functions
General Responsibilities
  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service, and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students, and members of the community.
  • Responsible for leading discussions and collaborating with stakeholders to identify and implement solutions and processes for creating high-quality innovative, relevant, and engaging online and hybrid content that leverages new technologies and multimedia.
  • Provides leadership to instructional design teams on multiple projects through clear and consistent communication to ensure projects are on schedule through to completion.
  • Provides instructional design support, consultation, needs-based training, and guidance for best practices, ADA compliance support, and quality assurance.
  • Responsible for leading and supervising the coordination and the quality of work produced by instructional designers.
  • Responsible for presenting project plans and consistent progress updates to ensure projects are kept on track and stakeholders are informed of progress and/or roadblocks.
  • Identifies potential improvements and solutions to improve departmental processes and workflows.
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with stakeholders throughout the College to identify and integrate student learning outcomes, competencies, and learning objectives into the design, development, implementation, and management of instructional content, courses, and projects to enrich teaching and learning.
  • Assists the instructional design team as needed with design, development, training, production, and course quality reviews.
  • Evaluates and ensures the quality of each course within the context of the TSTC OSCQR rubric and ADA guidelines and provides feedback regarding course revisions.
  • Provides expertise, guidance, and feedback, backed by appropriate best practices, on the development and revision of online and hybrid content to instructional designers and program stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership and support to direct reports in instructional design teams.
  • Ensures team members are properly trained on the most recent technologies and best practices associated with instructional design and delivery.
  • Stays up-to-date with new developments and technologies related to instructional design and course development and delivery.
  • Supports college and department initiatives with their team members.
  • Develops and leads appropriate professional development opportunities for instructional design teams, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with statewide and local program leadership in order to support the development and continual improvement of course content.
  • Responsible for collecting appropriate data, monitoring progress, and holding program review revision meetings each semester to ensure statewide and local program leadership and instructional design teams are aware of upcoming program changes and improvements to be worked on.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

Education and Experience
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in combination with a professional certification related to leadership, change management, instructional design, or digital accessibility.
  • Minimum five years instructional design experience working with faculty/subject matter experts to design, develop, and support delivery of online instruction.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Proven knowledge of competency-based education, universal design, backwards design, ADA compliance, interactive learning experiences, and authentic assessment.
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of engaging online educational content.
  • Portfolio Required.
  • Demonstrated successful strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and successfully coordinate multiple priorities and projects to meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Leadership, supervisory skills, and the ability to motivate team members and delegate tasks to team members appropriately.
  • Ability to mentor team members on appropriate best practices and processes.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate goals and initiatives with clarity.
  • Experience managing a team, preferably a remote team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and support, collaboration, and communication.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, specifically docs, sheets, and presentation software.
  • Research and needs analysis skills applicable to develop, deliver, and improve meaningful learning experiences.
  • Ability to oversee the development of instructional content that aligns with course objectives and competencies.
  • Strong ability to communicate online using email, chat, videoconferencing, and other technologies.
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional attitude and demeanor paired with a solution-focused mindset, positive attitude, attention to detail, and customer service focus.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple TSTC campuses and/or off-site locations to meet with CMEs and stakeholders, for team events, and training/meetings.
