The Instructional Learning Designer supports the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of K–16 STEMM curriculum that translates authentic St. Jude research into engaging, classroom-ready learning experiences. This role collaborates with researchers, physicians, educators, and internal teams to create inquiry-driven, standards-aligned instructional materials that foster scientific thinking, data literacy, and student curiosity.

The Instructional Learning Designer contributes across the full curriculum design lifecycle—from concept development and storyboarding to implementation, evaluation, and revision—ensuring all learning experiences are scientifically accurate, accessible, rigorous, and grounded in authentic biomedical research.

Work Location Requirement:
This position is primarily remote; however, candidates must reside in the Memphis, TN area and be available to attend monthly in-person meetings, events, and collaborative sessions on the St. Jude campus as needed.

Job Description: 
  • Designs, develops, and continuously refines inquiry-driven K–16 STEMM curriculum, instructional materials, and digital learning experiences aligned to NGSS and other relevant academic standards.
  • Partners with St. Jude researchers, physicians, educators, and subject matter experts to translate complex biomedical research into scientifically accurate, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Writes and edits instructional content, including teacher guides, student materials, assessments, storyboards, scripts, and supporting educational resources.
  • Develops interactive digital learning modules, multimedia assets, and classroom resources using current instructional design and multimedia development tools.
  • Applies evidence-based instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE or similar frameworks) throughout the curriculum development process, including planning, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Incorporates educator, student, stakeholder, and subject matter expert feedback to iteratively improve curriculum quality, usability, and instructional effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and external partners to develop multimedia components that enhance learning experiences.
  • Manages multiple curriculum development projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule.
  • Participates in curriculum planning, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to support departmental goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of instructional design, curriculum development, STEM education, educational technology, and multimedia design through ongoing professional learning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, STEM Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in instructional design, curriculum development, learning experience design, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing instructional materials, curriculum, or digital learning experiences from concept through implementation.
  • Experience using instructional design and multimedia development tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Vyond, Canva, or similar) preferred.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 - $114,400 per year for the role of Instructional Learning Designer - STEMM Education and Outreach Program (Hybrid).
