Appalachian State University operates the
App State Academy at Middle Fork.
The Academy at Middle Fork uses an innovative, team-based teaching model that promotes co-teaching and comprehensive practices. The instructional support assistant will be a member of a collaborative grade level span and will use co-teaching and small group instructional strategies to meet the needs of students. They will play an integral role in assisting with the implementation and facilitation of a robust academic program for students. The instructiobnal support assistant provides a broad range of services that assist students in developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning. The instructional support assistant uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students.
Job Duties & Responsibilities Model and meet the expectations of the
Portrait of a Lab School Team Member. Assist in creating fair and supportive classroom communities where students have a sense of belonging. Support the creation of clear expectations and norms for classroom communities. Assist with maintaining and using the expectations established in the classroom. Use restorative practices to address learning and behavior needs. Foster a growth mindset in the classroom. Communicate with students and families through positive and respectful dialogue. Actively engage with colleagues, school administration, the local community, and university partners to cultivate a collaborative school environment. Assist with the implementation of innovative, integrated, and inquiry-based lesson plans that are student-centered and based on constructivist approaches. Assist with utilizing instructional materials to support evidence-based teaching strategies. Work with individual students and/or lead small group instruction. Assist with the assessment of the progress of students regularly using a variety of assessment methods. Assist with facilitating special programming for students. Fully understand and follow expectations set forth by the staff handbook. Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular, punctual attendance and appropriate use of time. Participate in training and professional development. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, families, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws. Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in areas of the school. Comply with state and federal education statutes, including the NC Code of Ethics for Educators. Other duties as assigned.
