ECS is a small but dynamic defense contractor specializing in the development of immersive, interactive simulations that prepare our nation’s warfighters and other frontline personnel for real world challenges. Our team blends cutting-edge technology with instructional design excellence to deliver engaging, effective training solutions. We are seeking a mid to senior level Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) with strong skills in storyboarding, lesson design, and applying industry and military standards. The ideal candidate will effectively coordinate between subject matter expert (SME) and development teams, ensuring training products are instructionally sound, technically feasible, and creatively engaging. This position will work a remote or hybrid work schedule.

Duties:
  • Collaborate with SMEs, developers, and project manager to design and develop interactive training solutions
  • Create detailed storyboards, design documents, and lesson materials that align with Army TRADOC and other industry standards
  • Apply instructional systems design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to build training products that meet learning objectives
  • Translate complex subject matter into engaging, learner-centered instruction
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment of training materials with client requirements
  • Support quality assurance processes and reviews of training products to maintain compliance with instructional standards
  • Provide design leadership and instructional guidance in the development of immersive simulations, serious games, and courseware
  • Contribute to proposals and assist in defining project requirements as needed

Required Skills/Experience:
  • 5+ years of professional instructional systems design experience, preferably in a defense or government training environment
  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible/able to apply for a US DOD Security Clearance if required (i.e. no felony history)
  • Demonstrated experience creating storyboards and lesson designs for multimedia or simulation-based training
  • Familiarity with Army TRADOC standards, military instructional design requirements, or similar industry guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with SMEs, developers, and stakeholders to bridge technical and instructional requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with common ISD tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline)
  • Familiarity with collaboration platforms (e.g., Atlassian Jira, Confluence)
 
Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Creative design background (e.g., game design, graphic design, interactive media) highly desirable
  • Experience working in or around aviation subject matter a plus
 
Education / Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (equivalent or higher) in Instruction Design, Educational Technology, Instructional Systems, or related field required
  • Master’s Degree or other post graduate degree preferred
  • Instructional design or project management certifications (e.g., PMP, CSPO, CSM) is desirable
