Job Description

FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary
The Instructional Technology Associate is a hands-on production and design role within the Center for Teaching and eLearning. This position is responsible for building polished, accessible eLearning content across multiple authoring platforms, creating motion graphics and video productions, and integrating AI tools into the course development workflow. The ideal candidate is a skilled visual communicator and digital builder who thrives at the intersection of design, technology, and education. Position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after the initial onboarding period.
 
The Center for Teaching and eLearning, Huffington Department of Education, Innovation and Technology, Baylor College of Medicine partners with faculty, researchers, and administrative units to design and deliver high-impact digital learning experiences. Our work spans biomedical sciences education, health professions training, and institutional professional development. We produce fee-for-service eLearning content for internal and external clients and operate a professional multimedia production studio.
 
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule within the Greater Houston, TX area after a 90-day training period.

Job Duties
  • Participates in the creation and execution of concepts, layouts, and the production of finished files for print and interactive applications.
  • Resizes and re-purposes established advertising assets in multiple configurations and sizes.
  • Develops templated solutions to recurring project requests, including interactive and online applications.
  • Participates in the design, development, and maintenance of WordPress websites to ensure successful user experience.
  • Collaborates with senior Instructional Designers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to translate storyboards into finished online courses.
  • Updates existing training materials to ensure accuracy.
  • Creates dynamic animations and motion graphics for various digital platforms.
  • Participates in the development and enhancement of video content for marketing campaigns, social media, events, and presentations as needed.
eLearning Development:

  • Builds interactive eLearning modules and short courses using Articulate Rise 360, HTML/CSS, and related authoring tools, ensuring WCAG AA accessibility compliance and LMS compatibility (Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Translates instructional storyboards and design documents into finished, production-ready online courses in collaboration with senior instructional designers and subject matter experts.
  • Develops and maintains templated solutions for recurring eLearning project types, including interactive scenarios, knowledge checks, and resource hubs.
  • Updates and revises existing training materials to reflect current content, platform requirements, and accessibility standards.

Video Production and Motion Graphics: 
  • Produces and edits video content for online courses, faculty development programs, marketing campaigns, social media, and institutional events.
  • Creates dynamic animations and motion graphics for digital platforms using tools such as Adobe After Effects, Canva, and AI-powered video platforms (e.g., HeyGen).
  • Operates and supports production workflows in the BCM multimedia studio environment, including recording, editing, and post-production. 

Graphic Design and Visual Communication:
  • Designs visual assets for eLearning courses, presentations, print materials, and digital platforms, maintaining brand consistency and design quality standards.
  • Resizes and repurposes established design assets across multiple configurations, platforms, and formats.
  • Creates concept layouts and finished files for both interactive applications and print deliverables. 

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools Integration:
  • Integrates generative AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, NotebookLM, HeyGen, Gamma) into the instructional design and eLearning production workflow to enhance efficiency and output quality.
  • Stays current on emerging AI tools relevant to eLearning development, video production, and educational technology, and contribute to the Center's AI tools knowledge base. 

Web and Platform Support:
  • Assists with the design, development, and maintenance of WordPress and other web-based platforms to ensure an effective user experience.
  • Supports LMS administration tasks within Blackboard and Canvas as needed. 

Administrative and Other Duties:
  • Manages concurrent project deliverables across multiple clients using project tracking systems and established Center workflows.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of related experience may substitute for degree.
  • Two years of related experience.

Department-specific Requirements
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS for custom eLearning builds.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Experience with video production in a studio or professional digital media environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience with Articulate Rise 360 or Storyline 360.
  • Demonstrated experience with AI-powered tools in a content production or educational technology context.
  • Familiarity with WCAG AA accessibility standards and their application in digital learning content.
  • Experience working in higher education, academic medicine, or a health sciences environment.
  • Knowledge of instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, Backward Design) and multimedia learning principles (Mayer).
