Position Description 
Advertised Job Summary  | The Core Manager of the Instrumentation Resource Facility at the University of South Carolina is a pivotal position responsible for the daily management of laboratory operations and state-of-the-art instrumentation. The Core Manager will work closely with the Core Director to define and implement the core’s strategic initiatives, facility reputation and long-term infrastructure enhancements. Additional duties include: managing core projects and Agilent iLab Operations software, consulting with Principal Investigators and other lab personnel on proper project workflows, ensuring compliance with all university policies and procedures, user training and oversight, maintaining core equipment, and generating critical scientific reports.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience  | Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials  |
Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in the health sciences and at least 2 years of experience working in a research facility, or an equivalent combination of experience, training, education, and/or certification.  Experience in basic science research.  Familiarity with molecular biology and biochemical procedures and techniques as well as cell culture methods.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities  | Working knowledge of overall functions, operations, and equipment in a research laboratory setting. Experience in supervision of laboratory staff and students. Some work with animals is required. Must possess strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.  Ability to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Instrumentation Resource Facility to ensure efficient and effective service delivery. Manage scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation for the core’s projects. Act as administrator for the Agilent iLab Operations software to ensure that user activity is tracked and recorded correctly. Ensure compliance with all university policies, safety regulations, and standard operating procedures.
