WGU is hiring an IT Security Analyst II (Application Security) to strengthen the university's security posture by reviewing access requests, guiding vulnerability remediation, and contributing to security policies and standards across the full software development lifecycle.
What you'll do:
- Analyze source code to identify security flaws such as injection vulnerabilities and broken authentication
- Oversee vulnerability scanning of applications and APIs, and perform threat modeling during system design
- Build, configure, and maintain application security tools (SAST, DAST, IAST, SCA) integrated into CI/CD pipelines
- Perform architecture reviews and create security documentation for new projects
- Educate developers on secure coding practices and emerging threats
- Assess user access to systems to ensure least-privilege access and appropriate risk mitigation
- Contribute to the development and improvement of WGU's security policies, standards, and procedures
What you'll bring: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; 3+ years of information security experience; software development experience in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or C/C++; and knowledge of OWASP Top 10, web/API security, and secure architecture principles. Security certifications (CISSP, CSSLP, OSCP, CEH) are a plus.
Location: This is a full-time, 5-days-in-office position at WGU's Salt Lake City, Utah office. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
