Job Summary
The College of Science is seeking an Information Technology Specialist to join a high performing team of IT professionals, dedicated to serving the needs of faculty, staff and students. This position will be servicing the College of Science on a broad range of IT support needs. The College of Science IT Team is working to streamline operations and standardize exceptional service across campus, and this position will be joining a dynamic team led by a Director of IT for Liberal Arts and Sciences.

This position will support the organization’s computer systems, software and networking environments. It will orchestrate the provisioning, updating, and monitoring of systems. It will troubleshoot, and resolve application, hardware and communications problems. This position will schedule upgrades and collaborate with users and team members on systems optimizations. It will maintain operating efficiency and stability while ensuring the security and integrity of all systems and data. It will promptly respond to all outages and critical issues. It will coordinate with users and department leadership on the roll out of any significant configuration changes or systems updates. It will develop and enhance processes while creating technical and user documentation. It will create and follow procedures for systems back-up and systems monitoring. This position initially requires a moderate skill set and proficiency plus demonstrated discipline to complete work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.

Systems / Network Administrators
Support the organization’s computer systems and network environment. Install, configure, and support the organization’s networks (e.g., LAN, WAN). Maintain all firewalls, switch stacks, switches, and routers as well as network hardware. Ensure the availability and optimal performance of the network and perform day-to-day maintenance and management of network devices. Perform application administration activities such as creating, modifying, and deleting users, optimizing remote access, and security access for messaging systems, databases, and web applications. Support, troubleshoot, and provide resolution for application, hardware, and communication problems. Schedule upgrades and collaborate with engineers on network / system optimization. Maintain operating efficiency and stability, ensure the security and integrity of all systems and data, and respond to outages and other issues. Coordinate with department leadership to plan, design, and schedule the release of all software, hardware, or operating system updates. Develop and enhance processes and technical documentation, create back-up procedures, test plans, and reports.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, resolve and report systems issues.
  • Respond to user requests for system support and upgrades.
  • Manage security solutions: EDR, antivirus, and data loss prevention systems.
  • Perform scheduled software and systems updates.
  • Manage and monitor backup systems.
  • Provide user support for networking, applications, scientific equipment, printers and other peripherals .
  • Provide analysis, design, planning and implementation for a variety of information technology tools and systems.
  • Participate in projects to improve user and systems efficiencies.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a wide variety of tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within areas of specialty.
