Description

Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is looking for a Junior Designer to support the 1-color team and conceive creative and engaging book designs for our young adult, middle grade, non-fiction and graphic novel titles.

What you'll do:

  • Design and set up mechanicals/effects plates for jackets, covers, and interiors
  • Create engaging cover and interior designs through composition, typography, illustration, and photography
  • Route materials following department procedures and guidelines
  • Typeset corrections to jackets, covers, and interiors throughout routing process
  • Research and suggest illustrators, photographers, and stock images for projects
  • Articulate concepts with polished, convincing sketch comps
  • Collaborate closely with editorial team and other internal departments
  • Deliver notes to and handle correspondence with illustrators
  • Follow and help maintain on-time schedules
  • Respond to queries and liaise with other departments on behalf of the 1-color team as requested

Ideal Experience/Education:
  • At least 1 - 3 years bookmaking experience
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in graphic design or other related field OR equivalent work experience.

Salary range for this role is $50K.
