We are seeking a Lead Instructional Designer with expertise in shaping innovative, accessible, and pedagogically sound digital learning experiences at scale. This role collaborates closely with content engineering leadership, authoring leads, and cross functional partners to guide instructional vision, develop exemplars, and train authors and vendors. The Lead Instructional Designer ensures effective use of McGraw Hill's digital tools, supports scalable authoring practices, and helps advance high quality, research informed instructional design across products.

 

This position plays a key role in aligning instructional vision, digital tooling, and cross functional collaboration to ensure scalable, accessible, and high quality learning experiences across products, authors, and platforms.

 

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Partner with program authors, Academic Designers, and subject matter experts to define program specific digital learning experiences that meet academic standards and accessibility requirements, and lead the creation of POCs, sample lessons, and exemplars.
  • Lead and deliver training for digital authors and vendors on McGraw Hill authoring tools, including Habitat, Bento, and Scribe, ensuring learning experiences reflect sound instructional design principles.
  • Collaborate with TPMs and the Manager of Content Architecture to develop tool documentation, best practice guidelines, and test plans, and lead cross functional teams through quality assurance, ACR compliance, business acceptance testing, and learning research.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies in digital education and instructional design, and guide the ID team in applying relevant advancements to improve products and maintain market competitiveness.
  • Support Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support by providing instructional design expertise, creating digital POCs and product samplers, and helping communicate McGraw Hill's digital ID strategy at events and customer engagements.

 

What you can bring to this role:

  • 7+ years of applicable experience, or 5+ years of applicable experience with managerial experience preferred, in instructional, interactive, or UX design, ideally within an educational context.
  • Professional proficiency in instructional, interactive, or UX design at the bachelor's level or higher, with deep knowledge of multimedia learning theory, cognitive research, and digital learning best practices.
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional and or interactive design, including a 3+ years training teams or vendors to use digital authoring tools to create educational or informational content.
  • Demonstrated experience authoring accessible digital content and prototyping multimedia learning experiences using industry standard tools such as Captivate and Articulate Storyline, with a working understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience using industry standard large language models to design prompts, evaluate outputs, and identify bias, along with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and related productivity software.

The pay range for this position is between $80,000 - $122,000 annually.
