Learning Designer - Arts & Science Office of Teaching Excellence and Innovation Full Description

Position Summary:

Arts & Science is seeking a dedicated Learning Designer to join the Arts & Science Office of Teaching Excellence and Innovation. The Learning Designer collaborates with administrators and faculty on the development and implementation of evidence-based teaching strategies to support the educational goals of programs and departments in Arts & Science. The Learning Designer manages complex curricular design and development challenges and high-profile projects in the College Core Curriculum, with at least half time dedicated to working with the Complexities seminar program. Coordinate closely with the College Core Curriculum leadership in the oversight of the teaching support needs, including educational technology, technology-enhanced educational needs of a portfolio of teaching and learning initiatives, delivered in all modalities both face-to- face and online. General responsibilities include strategic coordinated faculty engagement efforts, including the creation and delivery of faculty development opportunities, collaboration with university-wide service partners in the support of teaching and learning, and design of training materials; coordinate, film, produce, and edit Complexities modules; field faculty Brightspace queries, including dedicated assistance for Core science courses that require special lab-related Brightspace components; strategic coordinated faculty engagement efforts such as the design, creation, and delivery of workshops and training materials (including occasional training for small groups of students on special projects); and design and oversight of technical projects. This position will also work closely with the Senior Director to develop robust and sustainable policies for assessment and course development across all modalities as well as strategies for faculty development and outreach and to mentor junior staff.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree learning sciences or educational design, or related field Master's Degree a plus

Required Experience:
5+ years relevant experience or equivalent combination designing, implementing, and supporting interactive learning experiences for all teaching modalities (online, in person, hybrid). Experience applying instructional design principles and pedagogical best practices for increasing learner motivation and active learning. Evidence of advancing knowledge through targeted professional development efforts. Must include experience designing and developing interactive learning experiences for face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments at the higher education level. Experience with discussion-based pedagogy and with applying instructional design and pedagogical principles in a Liberal Arts context. Familiarity with implementing project plans.

Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting teaching and learning solutions at the college or university level. Demonstrated use of integrating technology into teaching and learning initiatives.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Understanding of current teaching practices, educational theories and methodologies. Intermediate knowledge of educational technologies and AI and multimedia software. Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff. Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, internet browsers, and operating systems. Experience with one or more of the following is required: Google Apps for Education, learning management systems (ex. Canvas, Moodle, Brightspace), eLearning authoring tools (ex. Articulate, Captivate, H5P, presentation tools, web publishing platforms (ex. Wordpress, Google sites), social and collaborative tools, and/or digital video/audio production software (ex. Adobe Creative Suite, Articulate, Avid, Final Cut). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, with an ability to work with technical and non-technical staff. Ability to work as a team member dedicated to high standards of quality and innovation and take initiative when appropriate.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Experience teaching informally or formally within higher education. Experience with teaching and learning technologies, and/or digital video/audio production software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Self-starter with the ability to work in a team-based atmosphere with high standards for quality and creativity. Passion for learning and hacking new technologies.

Additional Information:

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $75,000.00 to USD $85,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
