Description
Trinity School, a co-educational, K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Learning Specialist, Grades K-4 beginning September 1, 2026.

Reporting to the Learning Support Department Head, learning specialists provide academic services in the form of individual, small, and large group academic coaching. The role places an emphasis on bringing together research and best teaching practices to remediate specific skills students need across educational settings. Learning specialists collaborate with faculty to help increase teachers’ awareness and understanding of students’ learning needs and offer suggestions for differentiating classroom instruction for students with  different learning styles or specific learning challenges.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated, skilled learning specialist with a Master’s degree in Special Education, Literacy, Learning Disabilities, or related field of study, have demonstrated successful teaching experience, and be able to work effectively with Lower School students, families, and faculty. In addition, the School seeks candidates who possess intellectual curiosity, a commitment to ongoing professional development, an openness to others’ ideas, an eagerness to extend oneself for others, and a sense of humor.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as an integral member of the Student Support Team under the supervision of the Learning Support Department Head and Lower School Principal;
  • Meet routinely with the Learning Support Department Head and other learning specialists within the division and across divisions to share information about students, set goals for the division and department, and engage in professional development;
  • Coordinate and analyze assessments to help identify students’ learning needs and track their progress;
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a school-based learning profile that includes instructional strategies, learning goals, and accommodations for eligible students;
  • Support the coordination of school-based assessments for students eligible for accommodations;
  • Collaborate with the Lower School Reading Coordinator and Homeroom Teachers in support of delivering literacy instruction;
  • Facilitate communication between and among the student, family, teachers, administrators, and educational professionals from the private sector; and
  • Assume duties as requested by the Learning Support Department Head and Lower School Principal.
