Job Description
The Legal Operations Manager serves as a strategic thought partner to the Office of General Counsel (OGC) leadership at WGU, driving operational excellence and supporting strategic initiatives. This role combines business acumen with operational expertise to facilitate planning processes, optimize resource utilization, and enhance service delivery across the legal function. Working at the direction of OGC leadership, the Legal Operations Manager assists with the development of operational roadmaps, analyzes departmental data, develops executive and department communications, and leads change management initiatives to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the OGC. As a strategic liaison between OGC and other business units, this position ensures legal operations align with broader organizational priorities while supporting OGC's mission. The ideal candidate brings a growth mindset and innovative approach to data-driven problem-solving, exceptional communication and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to translate strategic vision into operational reality, all while maintaining a commitment to WGU's mission of expanding access to affordable education.

Primary Responsibilities
  • At the direction of OGC Leadership, assists with the development and execution of the OGC's internal roadmaps, strategic initiatives, and operational plans.
  • Leads business planning processes, including budget development, resource allocation, and performance metrics tracking to drive operational effectiveness.
  • Analyzes departmental data and provide strategic recommendations to optimize resource utilization and improve outcomes.
  • Creates, maintains, and edits executive-level reports, presentations, and communications for OGC leadership.
  • Leads change management initiatives to support the implementation of new processes, technologies, and organizational structures.
  • Ensures operational excellence in day-to-day legal department functions, including coordinating records requests, document preparation, invoice processing and analytics, and select calendar management to support department efficiency (approximately 30% of role).
  • Serves as a strategic liaison between OGC and other business units to align legal operations with broader organizational priorities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6+ years of professional experience, including three or more years supporting legal operations, compliance, corporate governance, operations, or related areas.
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects in a highly matrixed, mission-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in non-profit, higher education, or corporate legal departments.
