NC State University is hiring a Linux Desktop Support professional to manage hardware and software administration for a fleet of over 200 desktops, workstations, and laptops running RedHat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu Linux. The role involves deploying and maintaining Linux systems, providing technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and performing system maintenance and upgrades.

Deploy, configure, and maintain RedHat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu systems.
Provide end-user technical support and troubleshoot issues in the Gnome desktop environment.
Perform system maintenance including OS upgrades, patches, and security enhancements.
Manage user accounts, permissions, and system backups.
Monitor system performance and document configurations and procedures.
Required knowledge: Linux system administration, RedHat and Ubuntu, hardware troubleshooting, network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN), apt and yum package management.
Minimum qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
Preferred qualifications: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Linux+, experience in academic or research environments.
