Job Summary  | The Manager of Double-Degree and Transfer Student Advising is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Advising/Registrar. The incumbent will work in close partnership with the Director of Academic Advising Programs, the Conservatory Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs, and the Conservatory Assistant Dean for Academic Support.

Responsibilities  | The manager provides specialized academic advising and support to double-degree and transfer students. This includes advising on academic requirements and degree planning, supporting students who experience academic challenges, and guiding transfer students in their transition to Oberlin. The manager also develops and contributes to programs, communications, and resources that foster the academic success of double-degree and transfer students and assists with broader advising and student support efforts.

The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills; commitment to access and equity; and a mindset that proactively identifies opportunities for improvement.

Essential Job Functions  | General Academic Advising and Student Support Acquire and maintain a thorough understanding of academic policies, degree requirements, and campus resources Provide specialized, holistic advising to double-degree and transfer students and connect them with relevant resources Advise a caseload of pre-major advisees Serve as a summer advisor for incoming students, meeting individually with students to discuss initial course selection and academic planning Assist with advising and outreach to the broader student population Conduct outreach to students experiencing academic challenges (including review of academic alerts, one-month progress reports, and midterm grades), and assist students in identifying options and developing plans to move forward Meet with students who receive academic standing sanctions to ensure they understand relevant policies and work with them to develop plans to return to good academic standing Respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, advisors, and families Document advising interactions and recommendations in advising software

Double-Degree Academic Planning and Progress
Work with double-degree students to develop and maintain ten-semester plans that account for College and Conservatory requirements Utilize Degree Works and the Educational Planner tool to facilitate academic planning and track students’ progress Meet with double-degree students when they declare a College major and assist them with updating their academic course plans accordingly Monitor students’ progress toward Arts and Sciences institutional requirements, identify students not making satisfactory degree progress, and work with students and campus partners to develop a plan for timely degree completion Consult with the Conservatory Associate Dean of Student Academic Affairs on overload and underload requests for double-degree students Meet with students considering changes in degree program or division (e.g., adding or dropping the double degree, transitioning between Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts) to ensure they have a viable academic plan

Transfer Student Support Organize group and individual advising sessions for new transfer students Introduce transfer students to the Oberlin curriculum and degree requirements Partner with the Transfer of Credit Coordinator, and, as needed, the Conservatory Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs, to help students understand how prior coursework applies to their Oberlin degree and assist students with requesting approvals to apply prior coursework to institutional, major, minor, and concentration requirements Serve as an advising resource for transfer students beyond their initial transition, supporting continued academic planning and navigation of institutional requirements Conduct ongoing research on best practices to support transfer students

Programming, Communications, and Outreach
Organize and contribute to programs, events, and advising initiatives (e.g., drop-in advising and group sessions) that support the academic success of double-degree and transfer students and foster a sense of community Develop, review, and maintain advising resources for double-degree and transfer students and their advisors Develop and implement communications for double-degree and transfer students and their advisors, including regular outreach and targeted messaging for specific student populations Collaborate with the Academic Advising Resource Center team on department-wide programs and special projects, including presentations, academic fairs, and commencement
Other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree Experience advising or providing other academic support for undergraduate students Experience working effectively with people from different backgrounds Strong written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, families, and senior administrators Ability to: Work independently and exercise independent judgment and discretion Plan ongoing work, easily switch between tasks, and follow projects through to completion Work collaboratively across organizational units with a diverse faculty/staff team and student body Identify problems, implement solutions, and resolve issues with students, administrators, and staff Learn and effectively navigate software used in academic advising and adapt to new technologies and processes Work some evenings and weekends
