We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Database team within Platform Engineering. This role owns the database platform powering our SaaS products, ensuring secure, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective data persistence. You will lead a team of database engineers and DBAs to build a developer-friendly, self-service platform with strong standards, automation, and reliability.
What you'll do
- Own and operate compute, storage, database, and networking platforms via services, APIs, and automation, meeting security, uptime, and SLA/SLO goals.
- Partner with product engineering and product management to deliver customer value, improve experience, and manage platform costs.
- Ensure platform and product security by working with cyber security teams and driving compliant, automated security practices.
- Build and lead a highâperforming, diverse team; grow technical capabilities and lead the transition to cloud-based infrastructure.
- Set technical direction with stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and secure platform solutions.
- Lead strategic planning and execution, ensuring predictable delivery and 24/7 operational excellence.
- Own the Oracle and SQL database platform roadmap; treat databases as an internal product with SLAs, documentation, and adoption metrics.
- Enable product teams through tooling, standards, and automation for schema evolution, performance, observability, capacity, and cost management, replacing manual approvals with automated guardrails.
What we'll want you to have
- 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years leading platform, infrastructure, SRE, or engineering teams delivering SaaS solutions.
- Proven ability to manage multiple initiatives, influence without authority, and drive alignment through standards, tooling, and automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with production databases at scale (Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server), including performance tuning, HA, replication, and cloud-managed databases (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Track record of delivering high-quality SaaS releases on schedule in fastâgrowing, multiârelease environments.
- Experience with or exposure to nonâprofit organizations is a plus.
- Willingness to support critical production incidents as needed in a 24/7 environment.
- Commitment to delivering solutions that meet quality, security, and operability standards.
