Job Description
Are you passionate about helping students build mathematical thinking and confidence? Uncommon Schools is seeking a Manager, Teaching & Learning - 5-12 Math to lead our network's math instruction and drive student achievement across all regions. In this role, you'll develop and share research-aligned curriculum and assessments, coach leaders and teachers in best practices, and analyze data to shape how we teach math. You'll work across our organization—from classrooms to leadership teams—to ensure every student has access to excellent math instruction and every educator has the support they need to deliver it.

Duties & Responsibilities
Curriculum Development & Instructional Materials
  • Develop, maintain, and disseminate network-wide curriculum and assessment materials that are research-aligned, error-free, diverse, and inclusive
  • Ensure coherence and clear scope and sequence across K–12 math instruction
  • Collaborate with curriculum and assessment managers across grade levels to align vision and practice
On-the-Ground Coaching & Support
  • Spend approximately 3 days per week in schools coaching network, regional, and school leaders on math content
  • Observe instruction, share best practices, and build content expertise across the organization
  • Partner with Regional School Improvement Leaders (RSIs) and school leaders to strengthen instructional execution
Professional Development & Data-Driven Action
  • Design and facilitate content-focused professional development that strengthens teaching and develops math expertise at all organizational levels
  • Analyze network assessment results and lead coordinated responses, including action plans, reteach resources, and progress-monitoring systems
Strategic Leadership & Expertise
  • Serve as the in-house math expert, staying current on research and evidence-based practices
  • Partner with Home Office instructional teams to develop and execute Uncommon's strategic initiatives
  • Contribute to the long-term vision and direction of our 5–12 math program

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
Experience
  • 3–4 years of professional experience in education
  • 3–4 years of directly relevant experience, such as:
    • School leadership
    • Curriculum development (e.g., as a Curriculum Developer/Instructional Coach or Principal)
    • Teaching in a school-based setting

What We're Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of math content and instructional practices for middle and high school
  • Experience developing or leading implementation of curriculum and assessments
  • Ability to analyze data and translate findings into actionable plans
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across all levels of an organization
  • Comfort with travel (approximately monthly outside your home region)

Physical Requirements
  • Minimal physical demands; primarily seated work at a desk for extended periods

Compensation for this position
The full compensation range for this role is $91,300-$107,400. Starting pay is determined by various factors, including, but not limited to, relevant professional experience and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Because internal candidates often bring significant tenure, they typically land at the upper end of the salary scale. In exceptional cases of extensive internal tenure, compensation may be adjusted beyond the posted range to maintain internal equity and recognize long-term contributions.
