ROLE TITLE: Managing Director, Alumni Engagement

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Teach For America - Metro Atlanta (TFA-MATL) seeks a Managing Director, Alumni Engagement to develop and execute an alumni strategy that works in service of the organization's 2030 goal by connecting alumni through regional engagement events, nationwide career development supports, and agile supports as it relates to our annual goals. This will include plugging alumni into Career Center events, connecting alumni to local career opportunities, co-planning key alumni engagement activities, accurate alumni records, and managing our comprehensive alumni engagement strategy utilizing data for our alumni base of over 2,100 people. In partnership with the Managing Director, Alumni Leadership, this role will serve on the alumni functional team and report to the Senior Managing Director, Chief of Staff.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
The Managing Director, Alumni Engagement, will maintain accurate and up-to-date alumni records that influence strategy. In partnership with the Development Team, the Managing Director, Alumni Engagement, will create and maintain a power map of education equity champions, key players/organizations, and influencers in Metro Atlanta (both alumni and non-alumni) and the connections between them that inform future strategy and planning in service of the organization's 2030 goal.
The Managing Director, Alumni Engagement, will serve as the organizational point of contact for regional and community partners who are looking to access alumni talent. You are the "go to" for alumni talent in Atlanta. Aside from knowing the landscape, you will also need to build, maintain, and steward relationships with those in positions of leadership to open doors of opportunity for alumni and help partners match with key alumni talent.
The Managing Director, Alumni Engagement, will support regional alumni boards in strategy and outcomes as they relate to alumni engagement. This includes being the staff liaison for the Collective Board (affinity and leadership space for BIPOC alumni), PRISM Board (affinity and leadership space for LTBTQ+ Alumni and allies), and the Regional Advisory Board's Alumni Engagement Committee.
Alumni Engagement (60%)
- Design and lead alumni engagement strategy aligned with our national organizational goals around leveraging our alumni
- Work with the alumni engagement committee of the Regional Advisory Board to design and execute key alumni learning and connection experiences throughout the year
- Event planning and execution for alumni-facing engagement events (Affinity engagement events, Career-based engagement events, Career and Opportunity Fair, Winter Party, etc.)
- Connect key alumni leaders to TFA alumni programming opportunities, virtual programming, and other national programming available to local alumni
- Work in partnership with the Director of External Affairs, manage content for the monthly Alumni newsletter, and, when applicable, social media posts to celebrate alumni achievements
- Lead alumni data project to maintain accurate records in TFACT (Salesforce database) for all Metro Atlanta alumni
Strategic Partnership and Alumni Stewardship (30%)
- Identify key partnerships within our local ecosystem to support the talent development of our TFA alumni
- Serve as the regional point of contact for LEE (Leadership for Education Equity) and coordinate with that leader to engage alumni in their opportunities
- Connect with key Atlanta-based leadership organizations (e.g., Leadership Atlanta, LEAD Atlanta, Leadership Georgia, Emerging 100, Outstanding Atlantans) to determine current alumni engagement as well as opportunities to nominate alumni for future participation.
- Work with the Development team to create an alumni donor and giving culture to include an alumni attendance strategy for donor events
Organizational & Regional Stewardship (10%)
- Support, attend, and/or participate in regional & cross-team activities and campaigns, including staff meetings and events
- Serve on the Metro Atlanta Alumni functional team
- Participate in organization-wide initiatives, including corps member matriculation and interviews
WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the Managing Director, Alumni Engagement, will be planning and executing virtual and in-person engagements that connect alumni through networking and learning events, fundraisers, and coalition-building events. As alumni come to the region, you will connect with them through email and optional virtual or in-person meetings to connect them to our network. You will work with Development to source affinity-based lists for targeted audiences for events. You will meet with alumni board committees to move the annual strategy-aligned work forward. Leveraging national relationships and partnerships as the regional liaison to support national programming available to alumni, along with building local partnerships and maintaining relationships to move work forward. You will lead strategy and working groups to ensure we have fresh records providing incremental progress to goals. While this may vary week to week, daily travel throughout the Metro Atlanta region is required for this role, as is occasional evening or weekend work.
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
- At least 7 years of professional experience, including 2+ years in an education-focused role
- Experience designing and executing programs with measurable impact
- Demonstrated success in talent recruitment, including coaching individuals for networking and interview preparation
- Proven ability to manage projects and lead teams using systems to track tasks, assess progress, and ensure execution
- History of independently initiating and structuring workstreams in ambiguous environments to drive results
- Experience leading change-management efforts, moving teams or initiatives from ambiguity to clarity
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with a track record of motivating others through written and verbal messaging
- Experience collaborating laterally across teams or departments to achieve shared goals
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, maintain optimism during challenges, and foster a positive team culture

- Teach For America corps member experience
- Existing relationships or networks within the Metro Atlanta education ecosystem

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost-of-labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the minimum and the salary range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
