Job Description Summary | Opened in the fall of 2019,
the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering offers undergraduate degree programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, and Software Engineering, and a graduate program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The School also offers several interdisciplinary minors and themed inquiry programs which allow students from across other Chapman programs to explore engineering. The Fowler School of Engineering (FSE) Marketing, Communications and Engagement Specialist is a highly collaborative, creative, and goal-oriented position that supports integrated marketing, branding, and engagement initiatives that elevate the school’s visibility and reputation. Serving as FSE’s brand ambassador and storyteller, this role facilitates internal and external communications and conducts outreach to prospective and current students, industry and community partners, alumni, and friends of the University. Develop and organize events, outreach programs, and external relations activities that promote Fowler Engineering, including Homecoming, Parent Spring Summit, community events, and guest speakers. The Specialist creates engaging written and visual content for web, social media, email, and print. Working closely with FSE Leadership, Strategic Marketing and Communication, Office of Admission, and University Advancement, the Specialist ensures brand alignment and the effective communication of key messages across all audiences. This position balances administrative and project coordination, including maintaining calendars, databases, and reports, with strategic input, analysis, and campus collaboration.
This role requires the individual to be a self-starter and proactive, with the ability to develop and execute projects independently and within a team environment. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support job-related functions and events is required. Responsibilities |
Marketing, Communications and Brand Execution Develop and produce marketing and communications materials to support student recruitment, outreach, engagement initiatives, events, and industry relations. Create, edit, and manage digital content, including web copy, social media posts, email campaigns, blogs, photography, and video assets. Facilitate day-to-day updates and content for Fowler Engineering’s website, blog, newsletters, and social media channels, ensuring brand consistency and standards. Serve as a brand ambassador by applying and communicating Chapman University and Fowler Engineering brand guidelines across all marketing and engagement efforts. Create and manage a comprehensive content calendar and oversee scheduling, reviewing, and approval processes for all communications channels. Working closely with FSE leadership, collaborate with campus partners (Strategic Marketing & Communication, University Advancement, Admission, Community Relations, etc.) to ensure coordinated messaging across audiences. Assist Fowler Engineering leadership, staff and student workers with workflow planning and project management to ensure timely, organized, and effective execution of communication initiatives and the maintenance of project management tools for all marketing and communications-related projects. Direct and work closely with student-hired workers to identify new story ideas and produce e-newsletters and social media content. Analyze engagement and performance metrics across communication platforms and provide recommendations to improve brand visibility, reach, effectiveness, and audience engagement.
Engagement, Outreach and External Relations
Develop and lead events, outreach programs, and external relations activities that promote Fowler Engineering, engage alumni, parents, and Friends of the University such as Homecoming, Parent Spring Summit, community events, and guest speakers. Manage engagement initiatives and events, including communications, invitations, guest lists, RSVPs, follow-ups, agreements, and post-event marketing assets. Serve as a liaison between the Offices of Alumni and Parent Engagement, Community Relations, University Advancement, and other external engagement offices to support relationship-building and coordinated outreach. Assist with maintaining accurate records and databases related to external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, volunteers, speakers, and alumni. Represent Fowler Engineering at meetings and events to gather and disseminate information relevant to marketing, communications, and engagement efforts. Take photos and videos at Fowler Engineering events and activities to add to the digital asset management system.
Professional Expectations and Other Duties
Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgement, and strong communication skills when interacting with external and internal constituents, including donors, industry partners, faculty, students, parents, alumni, and staff. Hire, train, and supervise students who support Fowler Engineering’s marketing, communication, and outreach initiatives. Assist with the planning and execution of Fowler Engineering and institutional events as needed. Participate in professional development to enhance skills related to marketing, communications, engagement, and digital strategy. Serve on school and university committees as requested. Maintain a working knowledge of institutional goals, priorities, and strategies to ensure alignment in messaging and outreach. Perform other duties as assigned in support of Chapman and Fowler Engineering’s mission.
Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Creative Writing, or related field Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in marketing, strategic communications, or other related fields Exceptional writing and editing skills to inform and influence across digital and print platforms. Proficiency in social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Highly organized, resourceful, and creative with the ability to plan and manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments on time. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey accurate information in a professional manner, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels. Highly flexible and adaptable – Ability to work some evening and weekend hours to attend university-related events and support job-related functions is required. Local travel may be required. Collaborative team player with a positive attitude – Strong commitment to working creatively and collaboratively in a customer service first environment. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with flexibility and adaptability to changing deadlines and priorities.
