Math Competition Program Lead Full Description

As the Math Competition Program Lead you will play a key role in shaping how AoPS engages with the academic competition ecosystem, connecting students at every level to the contests and experiences that develop great problem solvers.

The Math Competition Program Lead will:
  • Define and maintain AoPS's approach to encouraging and enabling our students to participate in important math competitions, and own the operational execution that makes it happen from campus hosting logistics to cross-team coordination
  • Build and scale systems to track AoPS student performance across major external math competitions
  • Use contest participation and performance data to drive program assessment and surface insights across the organization, including student achievements, engagement trends, and opportunities to improve our contest-related offerings
  • Partner with Marketing, Curriculum, and Educational Services to plan and execute AoPS's annual contest calendar, including the programming, resources, and communications we build around key contest seasons
  • Build and maintain relationships with external contest organizations, and represent AoPS in the broader math competition ecosystem
  • Stay current on the math competition ecosystem and act as the internal resource for how the landscape is evolving, from format changes at established contests to new competitions worth paying attention to
  • Over time, help shape AoPS's broader role in the academic competition ecosystem including the evolution of our contest preparation sequences, how we foster a strong community of contestants, and how we partner with established competitions

The ideal candidate has:
  • Strong mathematical background from college-level coursework, high-level competition experience, or similar
  • Deep familiarity with the math competition landscape, including major contests, preparation pathways, and the experiences that develop strong problem-solvers
  • Experience participating in, coaching, organizing, or leading mathematics competitions or advanced problem-solving programs
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale operational programs, define processes, and drive cross-functional execution
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills
