The MLL (MultiLingual Language Learner) Teacher is responsible for ensuring effective English instruction for students who are newcomers or current students, whose native language is not English.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards and is coordinated with the district’s/school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.
  • Provide consistent instruction in English language skills, including, reading, writing, speaking and grammar 
  • Support students with accessing content in all subjects.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
  • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area.
  • Monitor and administer student progress and assist with testing (academic and language assessments) for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition. 
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress. 
  • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
  • As needed adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment as aligned to school culture
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to discuss student progress and best practices
  • Travel between campuses as necessary to ensure delivery of instruction.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP & EVALUATION 

This position will report to the Associate Director of Student Services and School Directors and will receive informal feedback, at least biweekly through observations and interactions, weekly check-ins, and formal evaluations two times per year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • New Jersey ESL Teacher Certificate Required 
  • 3+ Years Experience preferred.
  • Experience serving students from linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Commitment to the GOLCS core values and practices. 
  • Urban school-based work experience, excellent verbal and written skills in communicating with diverse audiences. 
  • Experience analyzing student data and creating action plans that support student goals. 
  • Openness to feedback, and willingness to take responsibility for student success.  
  • Attention to detail.  
  • Flexibility under pressure.
  • Successfully completes required criminal history proof of U.S citizenship or legal resident status.

Great Oaks Legacy Charter School offers a competitive and equitable compensation package that increases based on years of relevant experience, with a minimum base salary of $69,500.00, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
