About You
We’re looking for a talented Motion Designer to join our amazing, global design team. Your mission is to bring the Chess.com brand and products to life through delightful motion.

You are smart, motivated, with a keen design sense and superb motion skills. You nerd out finding the perfect animation curve to use. You're a storyteller, conceptual thinker, and are adept at crafting graphics and illustrations when needed. You understand interactivity and know how to use motion in UIs to create a fun and engaging experience for people.

What You’ll Do
  • Partner closely with Product Designers, Product Managers, Marketers, Copywriters, Engineers, and other stakeholders to translate goals into effective motion design
  • Conduct exploratory motion design work with product teams
  • Design and animate illustrations that excite and delight our players for modals, in-game celebrations, and across our UI
  • Design fun and responsive micro-interactions
  • Contribute to and help evolve our motion design system

Preferred Skills
  • Strong motion design skills mixed with a background in graphic design or illustration
  • A clear understanding of interactivity and foundational knowledge of UX practices for mobile and web
  • 3+ years of experience as a motion designer working in product or branding
  • An online portfolio of your best motion design work, particularly work that features UI animation and interactivity
  • Deep knowledge of Figma, Adobe After Effects, and Lottie
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Experience working with Rive
